Flashback to
Scene 1
[In the home of Issac and Ida, Jack argues with issac about his treatment]
Jack: Father, I told you, you're sick. Please, Let me help you. It'll be cost free and I can make you better, I can fix you!
Issac: No. Why do you have to be so persistent? I'm happy, is that not all that matters?
Jack: No, you're being selfish. I don't understand. Why won't you let me help you? I know I ca-
Issac: You don't even know what it is, Jack! Just let it go. Your mother and I are proud of you already, can you not let us live the rest of our lives happily? Is it not enough to support my decisions? I don't want to play with cures anymore!
Jack: No, Father, what life is one that is in and out of a hospital bed? There is not a single happy moment when mother is worrying about you and you know it. Do not falsify What you have for happiness.
Issac: I don't need to be fixed. I'm living aren't I? And even if I wanted freedom from this ailment, I don't think it's possible. And now you of all people, think you can fix me, ha! Don't make me laugh. Not even the most professional of specialists know what's wrong with me. And you, a little boy, think you can magically fix my problems because you spent years at a medical school? It isn't something you should be taking on.
Jack: not with magic. With science, and Perseverance and determination. Through sheer will of force of the power of men. Through the will of God himself and all he shall proclaim mighty. By the end of this, I will have fixed you. I will not stand idly by and watch you waste away. I love you father. Please just... let me help you.
Issac: Fine son. If you believe you can truly do what is best, I will trust you wholeheartedly with the procedure. I'll discuss this with your mother. Perhaps this will make you see the madness of it all. [he exits the home]
Scene 2
Ida: you can't possibly mean that. You're not serious. You can't let that wretch do this this to you. You saw how he dissected the dog we had! He has nothing but malice in his eyes.
Issac Ida, that's quite enough! You know that I'm done. I've lived long enough to say so be it if this is the end or not. I'm far too tired to really give a damn anymore.
Ida: no you're making a mistake trusting him with Something so important. I find it very foolish of you to even believe there is a cure!
Issac: Ida! Enough! You should be glad that I'm even getting medical attention. I'm tired of toying with the possibility of a cure but I'm also tired of fooling myself everyday that what I have isn't going to end me soon. I can't sleep, I'm almost always hungry, my skin is turning grey, I'm losing hair and teeth. I see things Ida!
And I can't focus or remember anything.
