Dark clouds hover above the forgotten city, thunder roars but, no rain comes to extinguish the lava covered grounds below. Buildings that once threatened to pierce through the clouds lay in ruins and infested with several grotesque beasts. A white hedgehog flies slowly watching the flames dance around in the wind as the lava claims another building into its depths.

"This world was devastated before I was born. A harsh, bleak place, where we live in eternal darkness. Life is a struggle, and people live without hope. How did this happen? No one will answer me directly. But they always point... to the flames." A tornado of flames swirls before the white hedgehog. He sends a blast of energy to clear the flames in front of him and they die away. "These flames. They burn away at my world destroying everything in their path. They come from an eternal life form we cannot truly defeat. The Flames of Disaster known as Iblis."

"Silver!" The white hedgehog snapped out of his thoughts and turned around seeing his companion flipping from building to building.

"Blaze! What's wrong?"

"He's appeared again!" She shouted pointing to the south. Looking in the direction Blaze pointed in with an angry scowl, Silver flies off in that direction leaving his ally to follow.

Silver and Blaze go through the demolished city fighting off lava beast after lava beast until they confront Iblis, who emerges as a fiery golem monster ready to attack with a roar. The two are stunned by the deafening sounds that admit hot waves of energy at them, "Come on you monster!" Silver shouts in frustration ready to fight the creature. The duo attack Silver uses his psychokinetic powers to throw objects at the golem while Blaze shields him from the attacks using her flames.

The battle continued for what felt like hours until the beast finally sank into the burning sea below.

"Looks like we stopped him for now." Blaze stated while crossing her arms.

"But, it'll just rise from its ashes again." Silver hits a brick wall with his fist in frustration. "What's the point of all this? It'll never end."

"Calm down, Silver."

Silver slumped his head down in disappointment. "Then tell me what we should do. How can we completely destroy Iblis?"

Blaze turns to shut her eyes trying to find an answer for her distraught friend but to no avail, all she gave him was silence.

The sounds of the crackling of the flames behind them were disrupted by a dark voice, "...By knowing the truth, of course." Silver looks around then at Blaze her gaze fixated on a Black hedgehog with gray stripes in his fur standing on top of what was left of a building. "Just as a flower comes from a seed or a chicken comes from an egg, everything has an origin. You need to find the being originally responsible for this catastrophe." He raises his fist still not looking at the two below him as if he was speaking to someone they couldn't see.

"Is that really the answer to our problem?" Silver said with a bit of hope. "Tell me, do you know who it is?"

He gazed down at the two young mobians, "Follow me and I will tell you all you need to know." The hedgehog said as he sped away.

"Silver I---" The white hedgehog scooped her up before she could protest further, Silver was already flying after the hedgehog. Blaze wrapped her arms around his neck and her tail around his torso. Gathering her thoughts on the possible scenarios at hand, would they have to find an artifact? Trap the creature? Find a new home? They tried those before but were never successful, what could he have that could fix this. Her ember eyes followed the flames she had grown used to this way of life and was raised on stories of this angered being searching for his home with the goddess. She sighed trying to keep her cool demeanor but this innocent, naive hedgehog always made her think irrationally.

"Are you okay?" Silver asked softly

"Yes."

"Are you sure?" His voice was always so sweet and soft how he can be a fighter she'll never know.

"Yes. why?"

"Because we landed a while ago and you haven't let go." He smiled. He was right, he was still carrying her like a princess through the ruins, "I'll put you down when we get there, it's narrow here, and your tail might get caught on something."

"Alight." She mumbled. The group arrived in a room full of old monitors. Silver put her down as promised, Blaze quickly pushed him behind her. "Who are you and what is this place?" She hissed her fur standing on end, he tail rested on the white hedgehog's chest just in case of an attack she can push him out the entrance.

"You are asking questions now?" The mouthless hedgehog said, she could practically hear the smirk he would give. "I've been known by many names but you can call me Mephiles. As for this place well it is just a place I continue finding myself being drawn to after all this time."

Silver stepped forward now standing side Blaze "My name is Silver." He took a small step to the side getting a bit closer to the lavender cat and wrapped his pinky around hers calming her down. "This is Blaze. We've been fighting for as long as we can remember." Somber memories of his chance meeting with his friend flooded his mind. "How can we stop this?"

"To fix this present timeline, you need to change the past." (Mephiles)

"But, that's impossible." (Silver)

"With my help, you can, because I have the power to travel through time!" (Mephiles)

"No way!" (Silver)

"In order to change the past, you must eliminate the individual who has awakened Iblis. The Iblis Trigger."

As Silver thinks Blaze studies the monitor, she could barely read the words due to the cracks on the screen, a photo of a human girl on each article, and a blurred image. "Sil--"

"If I eliminate that guy, will our world be saved?" Silver said in a confident voice. Blaze's heart dropped, he can't!

Mephiles nods, "The Day of Disaster... Here are my records of this event. This was when Iblis was freed and his flames were released into the world." He pulled up more articles on the event but these had no photos of the girl but did place blame on 'the blue blur' being too slow. "And you have this creature to blame." Mephiles takes out a large purple gem and shows it to Silver and Blaze. Silver gaze inside to see a blue hedgehog standing around the flames, he saw anger in the hedgehog's expression " I see it! So, that blue hedgehog's the Iblis Trigger?"

"Blue hedgehog?" Blaze gazes into the gem and sees the same thing as Silver but the hedgehog had a look of anguish on his face.

"I'll send us back in time to the point when the Iblis Trigger was alive."

"Wait!" Blaze shouts but it was too late.

Mephiles generates a sphere with his hands, places it on Silver and Blaze. Blaze held herself feeling the negative energy radiating from the black hedgehog, her eyes wandered over to Silver, she needed to hold on to him, she needed to stay with him but before she could grab his hand they vanished.

It is a bright, sunny day in the forest outside the city. A portal has opened up, and Silver jumps out of it alone as it closes. "Where am I?" He looks around confused the sky was clear, birds were chirping, the forest was lush and alive. "Blaze do you...Blaze?" He spins around to see that he was alone. "Blaze!" He shouted but no answer. "I guess we all got separated...This is so unbelievable." he sees the path ahead near a tree and looks up at it. "Now I must fight for the future!

Blaze walks in the sand between a house and a palm tree. "So this is the past..." She sighs putting her hands on her hips "I hope Silver is OK. He's pretty insecure when he's alone." she looks around and pounders. "The Iblis Trigger. Blue hedgehog..." She couldn't shake the feeling something was wrong.

So I did a thing. I've been a Sonic fan since I was small but I never wanted to write a fanfiction since I didn't have an OC but I've been replaying my old Sonic games and when I got to 06 I remembered how hyped I was as a kid and how disappointed I was when I played through this story. If it wasn't for all the stuff happening behind the scenes I'm sure things would've been better oh well. I'm sure a lot of you noticed I changed Blaze a bit mainly cause I want her to be different from Rush Blaze, I always thought she had a hidden soft spot for Silver but never showed it but hey my fanfic my rules. Obviously, I ship Silver and Blaze so this is just me adding fuel to my shipping fire. The next chapter/campaign will be our sweet baby introverted angel Shadow.
