The Mission Of Polus

My heavily padded boots make muffled thuds against the thick carpet, as I awkwardly trail behind my fellow astronauts as we head into the spaceship. We entered the spaceship, ducking under the short metal door frame and taking in our new surroundings with awe. The interior of the craft was sleek and modern, pristine white walls carved into geometric shapes. The ten of us each situate ourselves onto a heavily padded chair, buckling ourselves in like how we learned in training. The crewmates and I chat for a while, making small talk. I immediately bonded with a fellow crewmate, Douglas, or Douggie as he insisted on calling him, who donned a bright pink spacesuit and had flowers in his curly brunette hair.

A few hours pass by, and the countdown finally starts. "20...19....18........3...2...1.. TAKE OFF!" I can feel the spaceship blast off, cutting a path into the air. It's quite shaky, and I grip onto the arm rests tightly as I stare nervously out the window. My heart was beating vigorously. The scenery behind the window rapidly shifts from bright blue cloudy skies, to puffs of pale pink and lilac clouds, and finally a deep dark void dotted with glittering stars and planets.

Eventually, it's safe for us to exit our seats and start walking around, completing the tasks we are assigned until we finally arrive at our destination- the newfound planet, Polus. I glance at the list of tasks shown on the tablet each astronaut assigned, and inwardly groaned. It's long, but it will be worth it, we will be the first humans on the planet Polus.

My first task, the medbay scan, was in the medical room. As I walk in, I see a crewmate, Jordan, standing in a lime suit and scanning himself. A quick summary of his personal data pops up above his head, then disappears as he steps off the platform.

"Hey Jordan!" I call out, happy to know that I can trust Jordan.

"Hey there!" They called back, giving me a friendly wink, exiting the room.

We were told that there would be complications on the mission, and we didn't know who we could trust. The ones who we could trust were the ones who were fixing the ship, working to successfully complete the mission- make it safely to Polus and start a civilization. I frown at the thought, hoping that there would be no blood spilled on this trip.

I complete my scan and walk out of medbay, and see an astronaut with a cyan colored spacesuit walking by in the hallway. Kylie, if I remember correctly. A red stain on her suit catches my attention, and it does not look like ketchup or paint. It can't be...right? Fearful, I walk past her into the cafeteria and stop in my tracks when I see a dead body in a purple spacesuit on the ground. Trembling, I rush to the emergency button which alerts the whole spaceship. We all meet in the cafeteria, and I tell them what I saw.

"I was exiting medbay, and I found purple, Mike, dead, and noticed Kylie running away from him. Kylie also has a blood stain on the pants of her suit, leading me to believe that she was the one who murdered our friend," I say in one shaky breath.

Most of the astronauts believed me, so we had a majority vote. We all vote to kick Kylie out of the spaceship as she would compromise our mission. Me and Douggie watch as the other crewmates throw him out of the spaceship. A flat screen then comes out of the wall. It screams "Emergency! Emergency! We have a parasite on the ship! Move with caution!"

Suddenly, the lights go out. Then I hear a scream. Douggie and I run to the electrical compartment, to fix the lights so we could see again. Once we were there, we made our way to the generator with the switches. I start flipping the light switches back on, but to my dismay somebody keeps switching them back off. I look around but only see Douggie by my side.

Douggie walks away, and I decide to stay to make sure the electrical compartment was fixed properly. Suddenly, I sensed someone creeping up behind me. I felt a searing pain in my chest, and briefly saw a person with a pink space suit run out, and disappear into the nearest vent. I let out a deafening scream, then it all went black. It was Douggie.
