I stared down at my lunch and then at the empty cafeteria seats next to me. I had caught back up with Armani and Jewel for lunch, but they ditched me, yet again, to go flirt with some boys. I'm not going to lie, they were cute, and last year I totally would have been flirting my ass off with them, but, like I said, people change. I just wish I didn't feel so exiled because of it.

I could've been the old me. Things could have never changed if it wasn't for... No. I can't think about it. But I could feel the memory slowly slipping from the recesses of my mind, as I painfully remembered each vivid detail that lead up to...

I barely made it to the trash can before I threw up what little bit of my lunch I had actually managed to eat, and through the rest away. I looked back up at the rest of the cafeteria to see that, thankfully, it seemed no one had seen that little episode. Lord knows I would have been gossiped about for weeks. "Oh.my.gosh! Did you hear what Mimi did?" That's something I could live without.

I made my way out of the cafeteria and into the restroom, checking to make sure it was the girls' room this time. I wiped my face with a wet paper towel and looked in the mirror. I mean I really looked, trying to see any evidence of the change in myself in my face that I felt so clearly inside me, deep down to my core. I couldn't see anything past the mask I put on every day.

I left the restroom only to sit down in the hallway with my back pressed against the lockers. School was really starting to wear me out. I hugged my knees to my chest and laid my head down on top of them.

After a few minutes, I heard slow but steady footsteps coming towards me. "Please just keep walking. Please just keep walking," I said silently to myself. But no, the footsteps stopped as soon as they got in front of me. I sighed and lifted my head to see... Brandon Nelson? "Oh, God...," I said. Of course it would be the kid I walked into the bathroom on while he was peeing.

He must have mistaken my look of mortification for me being pissed off because his face actually fell for a minute, and then he asked, "Can I sit down with you?"

"Sure, whatever." That completely took me by surprise. So, sure enough, he plopped himself down beside me in front of the lockers.

"So, I saw what happened in the lunchroom," he started. I felt my face heat up. He was quiet for a really long time, but there was no way I was going to be the one to break the silence. But thankfully, neither of us were. The bell signaling for last period rang through the halls, and I layed my head back down and groaned. I could not do this for another hour and a half.

But then Brandon surprised me again and said, "Wanna skip?"

Okay, I used to skip with Armani and Jewel, occasionally, but I never would have skipped with this kid. I really don't know what came over me when I acted before thinking and responded with, "Yes, I do actually." I guess it was partly because I was having such a crappy day. So I walked out doors with Brandon, but not before I met the eyes and bewildered expressions of Jewel and Armani.

Before I could talk myself out of it, I hopped in his car and buckled my seat belt as he drove down the road. "Where to?" he asked.

"I really don't care," I said. He slowly pulls into the local Starbucks that was right down the road from the school. A smile instantly broke across my face; Starbucks was one of my most favorite places to go. "I love Starbucks."

He smiled at me and said, "I know."

"Wait, what do you...," but he was already out of the car waiting on me to walk in with him. He was probably just referring to the fact that everyone loved Starbucks.
