Campbell stepped into the minecart, ores and minerals in a small basket he held. He’d been interning at the local mine with his father’s friend for a while now. His job was to take the goods from the mine to the surface. Norton wasn’t allowed to touch a drill or explosives since he was still young. Interns were never allowed to handle equipment. He set the basket down in the cart and took another, sliding out and wandering over to the miners. Norton collected the minerals, his expression blank as he turned over a piece of gold in his hands. He turned to the miner he got it from, tapping their shoulder.
“This is gold, right? Not pyrite?”
The miner gave a nod, smiling as they watched Norton’s expression light up. Campbell hooked the handle in the crook of his elbow, rubbing off the dirt and just staring down at the shimmering mineral.
