-Wendy-
As the arid heat of summer just ended, autumn is being welcomed by not only the group of survivors but nature itself. Trees are changing colour, the air is starting to cool down and the days are getting shorter and shorter. Warmth never really was my thing. instead of the living hell of day I prefer the cold air of nightfall. Another thing me and my sister had in common.
Autumn might be the best season of all, but for me its because of Halloween. The spooky holiday is taking place during a full moon this year. The spirits and ghosts will have their strongest connection ever to the Constant during this day filled with trick or treating, Jack o Lanterns and of course, candies.
Wilson thinks its accurate for him to dress up as a mad scientist for that day. Apart from the fact that he's the one with the most knowledge on the world of science, he also falls into the category of a mad lad. Willow wants to go as the beast of hell itself, the Dragonfly. A part of me thinks it's cute, but another thinks it's stupid. As for Wormwood, he didn't want to frighten anyone. he's kind of a innocent little sprout, gross. Warly, our culinarian, thinks he's too old to dress up as some kind of stupid scary stereotypical antagonist. Beside, he doesn't have time hunting spiders, shaving beefalos and knitting the silk and wool together into an spooky artwork. his art is in the form of food and let me tell you, he has passion.
As for me, although I spend most of my Halloweens crying in my tent out of solitude, this year I want it to be different. I find it hard to smile in my day to day life, just look at the world. Sure we are safe within our walls, but that doesn't change the fact that there is no joy in my life as a survivor. When you take care of one problem, another appears. When the hounds are taking care of, the big bearger appears. When the heat waves are over, the frog rain comes after. We live in a exhausting complicated world with no mercy. We should consider ourselves lucky when we can take the day off relaxing and not have any worries.
Today is the 8th of October, the moon is in the last quarter phase. Wormwood expanded our dragon fruit farm, Wilson departed on a journey to the desert in search of some remnant of clockwork knights. He told us that he'll be back in four days max. Willow set out to hunt for some pigmen, seeing as how Wilson took most of our meat supply with him. Warly like always, spend his time prepping in the kitchen for our next meal. Tonight for dinner, fish cordon bleu. As for me, well, I don't feel like doing anything today. I will be expecting some complains about my laziness but that's nothing I'm not used to. 'I cause trouble', that's how people describe me in short terms. But I'm also worried about Abigail. It has been a little over a week now since I last saw her. Although her physical body hasn't been seen in years, having the ability to see her spirit is the only thing that could bring a smile on my pale looking face. I miss her. I miss my sister. A tear slides down from my eye towards my chin, leaving a thin layer of cold, salty water resting on my left cheek as I'm looking at the flower she rests within. Usually when she is ready to come out of her flower, it's colours turns into a beautiful shade of red. At times I even felt like the flower levitated when she wanted to play.
However, since exactly nine days her flower has stayed into an enclosed pale white looking state, almost as if her spirit is fading away from the flower. It worries me. It frightens me. The only soul I felt loved from, is leaving me.
As dinner was almost ready to be served, I together with Willow and Wormwood already sat down at the table. I sat next to Willow while Wormwood sat on the other side of the table, where Warly will sit next to. While neither I nor Willow are big fans of fish cordon bleu seeing as how the frog legs in the dish makes it feel like your eating soup from a fish pond, Wormwood doesn't mind it at all.
'As long as it fills belly, me happy happy' he says followed up by a big smile. You could see that he was starving. I felt bad for the little guy. He has been working hard tendering our garden and yet for some reasons he didn't eat in between for the fact that he didn't want to disappoint anyone. Makes me feel bad for not doing anything. I really hated myself at that moment, but I kept it in myself.
