Thomas Jefferson:

The jock. The popular guy. The bold one. The guy who gets all the girls. The guy with no real friends but a hundred fake ones.

Alexander Hamilton:

The quiet one. The nice one. The introvert. The theater nerd. The orphan who is made fun of and has scars on his wrists.

These two people have never talked to each other, let alone be pushed up against each other in the halls. But that's about to change.

"You what?" Peggy screamed.

"I.. uh... think I like Thomas Jefferson," Hamilton said.

"Why?"

"He's... um.. cute and clever and bold and he looks really hot when he's playing soccer-- oh, shit, did I just say that out loud?" Hamilton said as Peggy cackled.

"Yes, you did, but you two would be adorable together!" Peggy smiled at Hamilton, giving Hamilton a sense of reassurance. "But, I don't think he even knows you exist, so this match-making case may be impossible to solve." Hamilton sighed as he pulled his sleeves down further. Peggy looked at him suspiciously. "Did you--"

"No. I told you I would never do that again."

"Then why did you--"

"They're just embarrasing." They grew into an awkward silence, Peggy ocassionally glancing over at Hamilton. "Well," Hamilton said after a while, "I guess we should drive to school." Peggy nodded as they hopped in the car and drove to school.

"Hey," Jefferson said to some people in the hallway, nodding his head at others. He winked at a group of girls as they screamed and blushed, all of them jumping around. The second no one could see him, he ran to the bathroom and locked himself in a stall, his eyelids sagging and his demeanor tired.

Tears sprung into his eyes as he was ready to cry, but someone came into the bathroom and he wiped his eyes before unlocking the stall and running past him.

Right when he passed the boy in the bathroom, the hairs on his arms and neck stood up making a chill run down his spine. He left the bathroom feeling different and confused.

Little did he know, the boy was Alexander Hamilton. The kid he only knew as The Suicidal Orphan.

He sighed and began walking to his locker when a flyer on the wall caught his eye.

Auditions for Hadestown on April 4! Come to the auditorium after school!

A musical.

Jefferson considered himself a good singer and actor. Maybe he could try out for the play. But, his jock friends might make fun of him and call him gay. He walked to his locker before anyone could see him looking at the flyer.

He read about the parts for Hadestown at lunch that afternoon. The parts of Mr. Hermes and Hades caught his attention, but deep down he wanted to be Orpheus.

He decided to try out for Mr. Hermes since it was an important and fun part. But...

It was April 4.

He had no time to rehearse.

I have to wing it, he thought.

_______________

He found Aaron Burr in the audience when he was at try-outs. He sat next to him and asked him why he was there.

"Thought it would be funny," Burr replied. Jefferson shrugged and chatted with Burr until it was his turn.

He walked up to the stage, the assistant director snickering and whispering to the director, the director's eyes widening for a second.

"U-Um..." Jefferson said. "Thomas Jefferson trying out for the part of Mr. Hermes." The melody for Wait For Me played on the speakers as he took a deep breath and began. Jefferson had played piano for eight years. He was good at reading music, so he just sang what was on the sheet music.

"How to get to Hadestown, you'll have to take the long way down, through the underground, under cover of night, laying low, staying out of sight. Ain't no compass, brother, there ain't no map. Just a telephone wire and the railroad track. Keep on walking and you don't look back, 'til you get to the bottomland."

The director sighed and put his pencil down. "Please sing Orpheus's song." Jefferson gulped and found Orpheus's song in the script.

"Uh, okay. La, la la la la la la--"

"Stop!" The director waved his hand. "So he can hit high notes..." the director whispered to the assistant and turned back to Jefferson. "We'll let you know if you got the part later." Jefferson chuckled and sat in the audience.

A smaller boy walked up onto the stage. The assistant director waved at him, seeming to know him. The boy smiled and slightly waved back.

"Alexander Hamilton trying out for the part of Orpheus," the boy said. The music began on the speakers as Hamilton cleared his throat. "I'm coming wait for me! I hear the walls repeating the falling of my feet and it sounds like drumming. And I am not alone. I hear the rocks and stones echoing my song. I'm coming!" Jefferson and Burr's jaws dropped. He was so good.

"I think we have our Orpheus!" the director said as he started clapping with the audience. Hamilton laughed and ran off stage to his friends and hugged them. Jefferson stared at him. He was incredible at singing.

The next day, another flyer was posted on the wall, a bunch of theater nerds surrounding it to see who got the part. Jefferson went up after the crowd disappeared and found...

He got the part.

He held in a smile and walked to lunch, sitting with his "friends" and joking with them.

Several girls passed him, touching his back to see if they were soulmates. He had gotten used to it since the hope of finding his soulmate had faded. He knew he would see in black and white his whole life.

"Attention!" Someone yelled, making the cafeteria go quiet. It was the assistant director. "Rehearsals for the musical start tomorrow! Rehearsals are after school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays! Thank you."

As the assistant director stepped down, the high schoolers got back to lunch, not caring about it.

But, Jefferson, on the other hand, was really nervous.
