In the heart of the woods of a dimension which humans cannot see, was a huge old house where the memory-keepers lived. They kept humans' memories in a jar, and every memory-keeper was assigned to one human memory jar only. Throughout the House of Memories' history, no one ever looked like the human he or she was attending to. But to Margaux, it was a different story.

The house was celebrating its six hundred fiftieth anniversary so every memory-keeper was busy except Margaux. She was a rebel and had a bad track record every time she was on duty.

Sometimes, she mistakenly placed the caps of the jars switching the name of the owners of the memories, and accidentally reset the memory jar of Luke Hemmings, a guitarist from Five Seconds of Summer because he wished that he could wake up with amnesia.

Being the stubborn girl she had always been, she granted his wish even though she's not his memory-keeper. Despite all of these, Lord Gregory, the highest of the twelve elders, loved her as if she was his own daughter. He did not give her any preparatory activity for that day to avoid messing up the party the elders were planning.

Margaux just sat beside her desk, on it was Kiel's memory jar, the mortal human whose memories she was collecting. It was a room full of memory jars on their respective desks, more like the set-up of a classroom. She stared at the jar while her head's laid on the edge of the desk and her fingers circling the cap of the jar. She was enjoying the scene from the jar when a feeling of envy stung her heart.

"Argh! How I wish I could experience the same. She's so happy and lucky! Her true family loves her, she has many friends, and she can go out whenever she wants. Plus, her crush is her best friend, uh. What if Travis – no! It can't be."

She stood up hastily when she heard a familiar voice coming at her place. The jar was on the edge of the desk when she looked at the door and faced the person.

"Why aren't you doing anything, huh? You spoiled brat?"

It was Madeline, her number one fan and confidant. They spent their childhood together because the latter was adopted by the third lord of the house since she was three years old.

"Well. Lord Gregory didn't assign me anything to do as usual. He must be scared that I would destroy everyone's merriment. Tell me, how do I stop this paranoia?"

Margaux let out a sarcastic chuckle.

"Be a good girl. C'mon, we're seventeen. It's just a year before we become legal and we could be excommunicated like her – the one who should not be named. But hey, just think that he doesn't want you to get tired for tonight. You're his princess, remember? Let's just change our clothes now before it gets late! Sure thing you wouldn't want Travis to see you like that!"

Madeline exclaimed as she took Margaux's hand and dragged her through the corridor.

The night was getting older and everyone was enjoying the party. Some are dancing to the tune of waltz, some are devouring the buffet, and some are talking with the lords. Madeline and Travis were walking inside the house checking every room to make sure the jars were in good condition, and no one was left behind for the party.

"There's nothing wrong here, you see? I should go back to Margaux."

Madeline said as she closed the door, but a crashing sound came from an adjacent room. Travis shoved his way and entered the room. There was Margaux, standing in awe of what happened. When she looked at the door and saw him and Madeline she hurriedly tried to pick up the pieces of Kiel's memory jar and tried to fix it.

Unfortunately, every time she tried to get a hold of it, her hands would get a wound even without direct contact with the broken piece. Her hands bled more and more until she decided to get a sack nearby and put all of the pieces in there. Madeline and Travis were still shocked at being unable to move and help Margaux, knowing the consequences they might face if they helped her cover up her mistake. After she's done packing the entire jar, she runs and leaves the two dumbfounded.

She dashed to the hidden part of the forest, not minding the blood traces she left on the way. Her hands felt numb because of the amount of blood lost. She tried to put the pieces together again, but it would never be the same. She lost so much energy now, until she came up with an idea.
