THE ORIGINAL FAMILY have been alive for a thousand years, and in that amount of time they've gathered a long list of grievances, enemies, dead bodies, and more. The list never ends; two of the originally eight siblings dead, over nine-hundred years of running from their murderous father, grudges ranging from endless murders of their lovers and friends by each others' hand and being left to desiccate for millennia by their brother's whims, to pettier things such as stealing each other's lovers, threatening murder over the dinner table, and not wanting to move countries again. They have eternal lives, eternal tempers, eternal grudges— nothing ever ends. This knowledge could lead one to say that the Mikaelsons were a textbook depiction of a dysfunctional family. One could even call them the blueprint. The Originals.

Yet, in spite of their centuries' worth of trauma, betrayal, grudges and hatred, they stuck together; the mantra of always and forever hanging over their heads. Even if they didn't exactly have a choice.

THOMAS MIKAELSON— born Tommen, a name he rejected after waking from his first death— has a long list of grievances against his family, much like how they did with him. Whether it be being left desiccated, having the people closest to him murdered, being forced to abandon those he loved, losing decades off his life because of Klaus, or the general source of his anger; simply being alive.

Thomas has never been good at regulation; he overindulges, he takes everything up a notch, nothing is ever casual or a hobby. He starts, and he can't stop. Dying only amplified this fact, and witnessing a traumatic death only worsened it. As the youngest Mikaelson still alive, his siblings made a decision for him; came together as a family, and mutually agreed that he needed protecting. Whether it be manipulating him in order to control his decisions, compelling away anyone they disapproved of— or simply killing them outright, in more extreme cases, leaving him to desiccate, and more. This proved ineffective when the person they ultimately needed to protect Thomas from was himself.

Convinced that the only way to keep his littlest brother from killing himself was to dagger him, Klaus left Thomas to desiccate in a box without reprieve for endless years. But with Mikael dead and a ghost from the past returning to life, Thomas is awakened. A family reunion is in order; siblings he hasn't seen in several hundred years are suddenly awake, under the same roof, forced to act like a family under their undead mother's hand.

Being part of a family is a lot of work. Being part of the Original family even more so. They all know it isn't going to work, that this façade is bound to fall apart at the seams. But what choice do they have? Always and forever hangs above their heads; a chain and a noose and a death sentence. Thomas has always known this family would get someone killed. (He just wishes it had been him).
