Chapter 3—What’s Your Number?

Drake and I have agreed that every Wednesdays after class, he will be teaching me at his house for one hour. Of course, I didn’t agree.

First of all, he is a jerk. What if he just looks good on the outside but is actually evil when we get to his house, right?  Second and most important reason, I do not know where he lives. How am I supposed to drive to their house if I don’t know where it is, right?

When I told him about my reasons, he just laughed at me like I was insane. Were my reasons not reasonable enough?

“First, you’re too full of yourself. Just because a lot of guys want you don’t really mean you can count me in.” He told me as he raised his finger, counting for one. “When I say at my house, I didn’t mean inside my room and on my bed. It could actually mean in the living room or in the dining room.”

He then raised another finger, making it two. “Of course, I will give you my address and give you instructions if you aren’t too smart to locate my house.”

“I am not good with physics but I am street smart.” I told him, smirking as I said the last two words.

“Not good isn’t really the word you should have used to describe your skills in physics, you know that? You’re making it sound so light.” He told me before he rubbed his chin as if thinking. “More like clueless. Yes, that would be better.”

“I hate you!” I said through gritted teeth as I passed by him purposely hitting him. I went to my locker as he laughed.

“It’s Wednesday today.” He sang around the corridor making me look back at him. His back was already on me as he walked towards the other direction.

Damn. Why does it have to be Wednesday today? Wait, he hasn’t told me his address yet.

“Hey, Collins!” I called out making him turn at my direction. “So, what’s your number?”

I didn’t realise everyone was looking and listening at me until I heard them all cooed. I then heard Shelby chuckled beside me. I can feel my cheeks heat up as people started commenting.

“Dude, Courtney asked for your number!”

“I’m willing to give you my number, Court.”

“You serious? He didn’t ask for her number but he was asked by Courtney.”

“I didn’t know you’d cheat on Tyler in public.” Shelby joked before laughing.

I elbowed her and turned my attention to Drake who looked amused. “I mean…class number. What’s your class number?”

“Really?” He said chuckling. “Why would you ask for my class number?”

I looked around and found Sam. An alibi then popped in my mind.

“Well, Sam has forgotten her class number in our Calculus class and Collins is next to Dawson.” I said. I could see Drake’s face trying to hold back his laughter. Of course, he won’t buy my alibi.

“My class number in Calculus?” Sam asked me with one of her eyebrows raised. I looked at her pleadingly and she just nodded. “Oh. Yeah, I forgot.”

“It’s eight.” Drake answered. “You sure that’s your only question?”

“Why? Do you really think my girlfriend would be interested in you?” I heard Tyler said as he walked beside me. I glanced at him and he was looking at Drake as if sizing him up.

“Tyler, stop.” Shelby told Tyler placing a hand on his shoulder.

Drake just shrugged his shoulders then looked at me before walking away.

“As if a nerd like him would actually get a girlfriend now he’s making it look like my girlfriend is after him?” Tyler snorted as he placed an arm on my shoulder.

“He’s smart indeed but I don’t think nerd actually suits him.” Sam said as we began walking towards the parking lot.

“He’ll definitely get a girlfriend. He’s cute…and sexy.” Shelby added making Tyler glare at her.

“Enough guys” I sighed as I stopped in front of my car.

“How about we go to the mall today?” Shelby suggested with her green eyes looking at me and to Sam excitedly.

“I have cheering practice in an hour.” Sam answered as she glanced at her watch. Sam has always been the most flexible and the greatest dancer in the group.

“Okay.” Shelby said rolling her eyes at Sam. She then looked at me questioningly.

“I…can’t. Sorry.” I told her honestly without giving too much information.

Shelby just sighed. “Okay. I’ll just go and kill myself from boredom at home then.”

“Alright, alright.” Tyler announced distracting all of us. “Everyone’s not available and we should just all head home.”

“Except for me.”Sam interrupted raising her hand. “I have to go to the gym. The others are probably changing stretching now.”

“Bye!” I bid her good bye as I kissed her cheek. Shelby kissed her cheek before she ran towards the gym.

“I’m gonna leave you two now. Bye!” Shelby told us before she kissed me and waved good bye at Tyler.

“So, where are we going?” Tyler asked me as he leaned on my car. He was grinning at me.

“Home.” I answered as I smile at him.

“Are your parents not home yet?” He asked when I pressed the unlock button in my car key.

“Maybe?” I said as I walked towards the driver seat. Before opening the door, I leaned my body on my car making sure Tyler would see me. “When I say home I mean we’ll go to our respective houses. We have school works that needs to be done.”

The smile on his face faltered and he sighed. “Fine. Bye.”

“Bye, babe.” I told him as he turned his back on me.

“Bye!” He told me dismissively before turning his back on me.

As I opened the door of my car I heard him mumble, “What a bore.” I blinked my eyes and looked at him. Did I hear him correctly?

Before I could even ask, he was already on his car. He looked piss but then he glanced at me and I waved. I sighed and hopped inside my car.

What’s wrong with Tyler? Why does he have to act like a jerk sometimes? Can’t he understand that we have school and that it has to be my priority?

I was about to start my car when someone knocked on my car’s window. It was Drake. I rolled down my window and asked, “What?”

“You don’t know where I live, right?” He told me as he leaned on my window.

“Hop in.” I told him motioning for him to go and occupy the passenger’s seat. He then walked around and did as he was told.

“He really is an asshole, eh?” He said making me glare at him. I knew already who he was referring to. It was Tyler.

“So, where do you live?” I asked, obviously changing the topic. I would allow him to lecture me over physics but not about my other choices in life.
