"I am depressed",
Is really an easy thing to say,
Something happens, you feel sad,
And you self diagnose in your way.

Do you know how it feels like,
To be 'clinically depressed'?
I'll guide you through the nitty gritty,
Don't be at all so stressed.

Persistent sadness or low mood,
With loss of interests or pleasure,
Feeling fatigued or low on energy,
You may need to take some measure.

But wait there, that's not depression
Until you feel at least one of these,
Most days, most of the time,
For at least 2 weeks, so please

If any of above is present in you
Associated with disturbed sleep,
Poor concentration or indecisiveness
Or low self-confidence you keep.

Sometimes poor, somedays increased appetite,
Agitated at times, yet movements are slow,
You feel guilty and blame yourself,
Or suicidal thoughts or acts you show.

Wait there, this is the farthest point,
Backtrack for a moment and read,
If you can check fewer than four symptoms,
You might just be fine, but sad.

If you see four in you,
Mild depression is what you suffer,
At this point you need help,
And if it's your friend that needs help, you should offer.

Five to six symptoms to show,
In you for a period of two weeks now,
You maybe having moderate depression,
You still haven't sought help? HOW?

Seven or more rings the alarm bell,
Severe depression is not a joke dear,
Watch out for yourself and others too,
Because at this point if you don't act, I fear...

Don't panic it's still not too late,
Now you've learnt what it is, you've read ,
Just a little tip to go along with it,
Never say 'It's all in your head'.

For them it's real, they can't 'snap out of it',
They can't 'try to be happy', don't say
Friends, parties, alcohol isn't a solution,
If it is depression act now, act today.

They say depression causes suicide,
If a person is heavily depressed they take the last step ending ,
It's a misconception, always remember they give clues,
And suicide occurs usually when they're recovering...

But after all this there's one thing I'd say,
Depression, like every other disease does go away,
Prompt treatment, love, support and care,
Can save lives from going astray.
