It was the peak of Breaking Dawn. I needed to get up, get showered, get dressed, and do my morning duties. I may not have the ideal teenage life, but I have something even better: a place to call home. My folks were rarely home, but when they were, I had to work my tosh off like never before. I've always been a fan of things not changing. I had a pretty typical life outside of school and chores.
I walked down our oddly-painted walls. I never understood Mamma's need for mustard-colored walls. I was walking down the stairs step-by-step as I noticed the wonderful smell of Turkey Bacon. My folks must be home!
"Y'all get your filthy feet off my fancy diner wear!" Mama yelled.
Great! Joshy must be his typical, smelly, and stained piece of jerkiness he always is. Can't that boy do any of his laundries by himself? Mama and Papa are hardly home anyway.
"Hello, sweet pea," Mama said.
"Hey, Mama," I responded.
"Golden cakes with syrup, bacon, and sausage as you like it," Mama said while passing me my plate.
We rarely get these intimate family moments. I will take it when I can have it. Mama, Papa, Joshy, and I all having breakfast at the same dinner is rare these days. I understand. Papa and Mama need to make a living.
"Bye, y'all," I shouted as I left.
