A Day at the Beach

Dick's POV

Dick watched as Percy ran back to the shore with pink cheeks. He smiled, still, the same old, shy Percy he knew and loved. He hopes that this is a good sign she is shy. Does this mean that she likes him? That made him happy. This day just keeps getting better and better.

...

"No, don't you dare steal my last cookie, Bird Boy! You got your own!" Dick smirked and gulped down Percy's last blue cookie as fast as he could.

"Sorry Birdy, they were just too delicious." Percy scowled and crossed her arms in annoyance. He laughed. She must be in a good mood today, usually, she did be judo-flipping me by now.

Megan looked at them curiously. "Robin, I did mean to ask, why do you refer to Tidal-Wing as Birdy?" She asked as both Superboy and Kaldur also looked up in interest.

Percy groans while Dick's face lights up in excitement. His eyes shining beneath his dark shades.

"I'm glad you asked, Megan! Cause this is the story of the centuries!" He rubbed his hands dramatically.

"Rob, please don't," Percy begged, her face buried in her hands.

"Please YES!" He answered back. He looked back at the curious trio and began.

"It all begins on the day Tidal finishes her training with Batman..."

FLASHBACK:

Percy looked at Batman in excitement as he had just announced that she is ready to be on the field.

"Are you serious?" She shouted. Bruce gave a small smile.

"Yes, you heard me right, Percy. You are ready for patrol, and I also had Lucius make your suit."He pulls out a blue box and hands it to the demigoddess.

Inside was a beautiful midnight-blue spandex suit with greek-armor design complete with a silver utility-belt. Percy's eyes were shining. Bruce put a hand on the girl's shoulder.

"Go tried it on. Dick, will you stay with Percy? I need to leave for an important meeting at the W.I."

"Sure!"

Percy didn't seem to notice Batman leaving. She eagerly ran into the changing room to try on her new suit, and it fitted her perfectly. The mask was the same design as Dick's, identifying them both to be the proteges of the Dark Knight.

Dick whistled when Percy stepped out of the changing room. She looked like a true warrior. Percy blushed.

"You look absolutely amazing, Perce." Dick complimented. "So what is your codename?"

"I actually have not thought about it..." Percy answered, a little embarrassed. "Umm, do you have any idea?"

"Well, I was thinking you could do a bird-related name, just like me." He answered with a pink cheek. "If you want that is..."

"That is a wonderful idea!" Percy smiled at him. "So, what have you got?"

"Well, how about Sparrow?"

"Um, no. Too plain."

"Bluebird? BlueJay?"

"No, I love the color blue, don't get me wrong. But the name just doesn't describe me."

Dick was thinking hard. He thought about Percy during training, how she gripped around the Bat-Cave with grace. "Oh! How about Birdy? That's a good one!"

Percy shook her head. "Oh, come on. That's gold!

"It sounds nice, but still not me. Something fierce and has bird-related words in it!"

"Fine, but I'm still calling you Birdy though, That is a great nickname." Percy scoffed at the wonder bird.

Dick smiled and continued to wrack his brain for ideas. He thought about Percy during training. How she fought him, her every move and blow as swift and clean as the-

"Tidal-Wing."

"What?" Percy asked.

"Your codename. Tidal-Wing. What do you think?" Percy blinked for a few seconds before a wide smile crossed her beautiful face.

"I love it! It fits me perfectly!" She jumped up and hugged Dick, planting a light kiss to his cheek. "Thank you so much!"

She ran up the stairs to the entrance of the Cave. "I've got to tell Alfred about this, you're the Best, Dickie-Bird!"

Dick stood frozen on the same spot Percy left him on. His face is pure scarlet. Percy just kissed him?! Is he dreaming? He reached up and touched the spot tenderly, a small grin on his face.

Thank you, genius-brain of mine.

"...And that is how the name Birdy stuck." Robin finished proudly. The team clapped and he mocked bowed.

Percy mumbled something he couldn't hear but he ignored it. The memory of the kiss was still fresh in his mind. He smiled. Ah, good times.

"What a day." Miss M sighed, laying back on the white beach. But of course, it had to be interrupted, by none other than Batman.

"Team, report to the Mission Room in exactly ten minutes. You're getting a new teammate."
