"Oh really? It's a contest then. The one who would reach the ground floor first would be treated by the loser to ice cream." He said, grinning.
"Sure, deal! Prepare your money, Leon. I eat quite a lot, you know," I grinned back at him.
"Right back at you, Natalie! Game?" He positioned himself.
"Game!" I ran as fast as I could, I felt something being cut off, but I focused on running. I jumped every floor. I shook my head and thought, Maybe it would've been better if I'd just jumped from the fifth floor.
After less than 2 minutes (I think), I was already at the ground floor. I wasn't really sweaty, just out of breath. After taking quite a few deep breaths, I turned around and saw Leon. He was just coming down from the second floor, not breaking a single sweat.
Whoa. He's quite a talented one. I have to admit, I'm surprised.
He ran to where I was standing, took deep breaths like I did, and smiled at me. "Just how fast can you get? I've never encountered anyone like you before. Maybe you should participate in the sprint race next year."
"You did great, too. I didn't know you were so fast. You were amazing. But... I guess you'd have to treat me to ice cream later, Leon." I smiled.
"Yeah, sure, wait." He looked at his wrist, and the string was cut off! So that was what the sound was before! I looked at mine too, and found that the string was really broken into two.
Leon smiled and said, "Maybe it was broken when we raced, it's easily broken in the first stage after all. Even scissors could cut it."
"What? Why didn't you tell me earlier? We couldve just cut it before. Wait... First stage?" I said, confused. What did he mean by first stage? Does it mean the chain has a 'second stage'?
"Oh, I still haven't told you?"
I shook my head. "No."
"About that..." He showed me his wrist. I saw small powder-like things gathering to form some kind of a thread. "The string rebuilds itself after being cut or broken." The thread became more of a chain as more powder like particles drew together. I stared in amazement, watching as the chain became fully formed. It was thicker than before. And it wasn't a string anymore, but a stainless steel.
"Look," Leonel pulled his wrist. "It became indestructible." Indestructible? Nothing was indestructible. Just look at the barriers my clan built around the Nyx's mansion.
"You look skeptical."
"I am," I replied. "Who wouldn't be?"
"If you don't believe me, why don't we try?"
"Try what?"
"To destroy it, what else?"
"Okay. But how?"
"Let's have a race again. Who loses will treat the winner to a restaurant." He grinned.
I groaned. "That? Again?" I think he think that it'll result to a tie, and we would eat in a restaurant, the both of us. But he would plead that I would pay for him.
