Chapter Two ( Detectives in Training)

Shuichi's p.o.v.

Beep Beep! The alarm clock blared, not that it mattered. I was already awake, and I had already eaten breakfast.

6:30 am.

Work would start in an hour and a half, and it's a thirty-minute drive to the office. Which gave me an hour of free time, to tidy the kitchen a bit. Not that the kitchen is a mess, just I like to tidy things up a bit when I have nothing to do.

Hm, maybe I should leave right after I tidy up, after all, you never know if the traffic would be backed up.

I imagined Rantaro's voice laughing at the mere thought of me leaving so early. Why would traffic be backed up at seven am on a Sunday?

Pushing the imaginary Rantaro out of my head, I double-checked that my phone was charged and that the door was locked before getting into the car after I had cleaned the kitchen.

On the way, I stopped by Lake Love. An odd name for a lake, but there is a myth that if you confess your love to someone while looking at the lake, you and that person will be entirely happy together.

I don't believe it, of course, it's just a story that people like to share.

"Shuichi? How come you're here?"

I turned around to see Kyoko, she was holding hands with her boyfriend Makoto Naegi "Oh, well work is in an hour so I thought I would just stop here for a bit, how come you are here?" I smiled, trying not to focus too much on the fact that my mentor was in front of me with her boyfriend.

"Oh, Makoto and I decided to come here to look at the lake for a little bit before work starts. After all, it's a calming place". She smiled as she looked out into the lake and Makoto cleared his throat.

"It's nice to see you again, Shuchi, I guess you left early so you wouldn't be late for work? He grinned before leaning against Kyoko and looking out into the lake.
"Yeah. you got me." I'm always trying to be early and never late." It was true, I hated to be late because then everyone knows you're there and you didn't even get to where ever in time.

Makoto nodded before kissing Kyoko's cheek

I decided to take that as a sign to leave the couple alone. "Well, I better head to work, I'll see you guys later!"

The rest of the ride was fine, no backups, so I was twenty minutes early, not a bad thing, at least the office was open.

"Oh, Shuichi, you're here early! Detective Al wishes to speak to you, his office should be open."

Quickly nodding I walked to the office and knocked on the door.

"Ah, Shuichi, you're here, please take a seat."

"Yes sir." Al was one of the best detectives in the force so if he wanted an audience with me it must have been important.

"Don't look so tense, I promise that you'll be delighted with the news I have for you." He handed me a folder with a straight face. "You have passed your training so far in your internship, and when your internship is over, you have to pass your Law Enforcement course in college then, you will be a detective. Inside of the folder is a small scholarship to help you in college."

"Oh, thank you, sir! I promise to do my best to please you and everyone else here. I hadn't felt so excited in my entire life.

"Very well that will be all Shuichi" With a hand motion to the door I walked out with my

Kyoko was sitting at her desk looking over some stuff on the computer before noticing me. "Ah, I see Al, gave you his scholarship! He only gives it to the best interns every year. Congratulations!"
