So that's what Ethan meant when he said that that Harvey shouldn't be part of the family.
"When I came back home that day at around 6 o'clock in the morning, Ethan was leaving. He was there to just take his things back and say goodbye to my parents. He didn't give a shit about Derrina so we don't know if they met or not. We think he knew about Derrina robbing people and all the other things she did but he didn't care. He didn't try to help her or change her because apparently he had lost interest. So because Derrina loved him so much, we think she told him something that could lead us to her, like her real name or number or where she was going. But because of Ethan's hate towards me, he wasn't gonna tell me shit. Let alone come back here again." Harvey paused to probably take some air.
"We did everything to get Ethan to tell us something but he didn't. He wouldn't even come back here. Well, he didn't find anything interesting enough to come back and the other reason was because he met you. Remember the two days that Ethan had left, he met you in that time and so he found nothing else important."
"We kept on trying to get him to tell us something but he is really stubborn. When you two broke up, we thought there was a slight chance but no. That night when I met you at the church, I had talked to Ethan and we had got in an argument. There was no point trying to convince him anymore because he had made up his mind. I recognised you when I saw you but I wasn't hundred percent sure. When I went back home, I checked Ethan's pictures and it was you but I couldn't have done anything because I knew that I wasn't seeing you ever again."
"Until, you walked up to me at college when me and Caleb were arguing or fighting to be exact about who's fault it was that everything we were doing wasn't working. When I saw you, another idea popped into my mind. I told Caleb you were 'useful', in front of you actually, you just didn't know that the stupid things we were saying meant something, just the first letter thing which is unnecessary right now." Harvey says and the last part mostly to himself.
*Flashback*
"Who's she?" The other guy asked.
"Until she's eating fries, undo laboratory." He orders him and ignores his previous question. What are they even talking about?
*Flashback ends*
It all makes sense now, the stupid talk and even that 'J' on Caleb's hand.
"We started hanging out with you. The pictures that I always clicked and put on my story was for Ethan, mostly. I wanted him to know that you were here and with us. I know it's bad and I'm sorry." He paused again. This time expecting me to say something but I didn't.
So nothing was true. I was a part of the plan from the beginning. I want to go back to my room and cry in bed and never come out again.
"We invited him to the charity ball, hoping he'd come this time because of you. And he did but we expected him to stay at our place, you know it would be easier to get ahold of his phone and laptop but he stayed at a hotel instead. We have a friend, Dodge, he's a hacker, he owed me a favour so he helped. We told him that Derrina would be here soon after Ethan. We didn't mean an hour after him but he's stupid. So when you went upstairs for the washroom, he thought you were Derrina and trying to go in my room so he injected a drug in you to make you unconscious."
"When you took me to the club, that was for your plan too? Of course, it was. Caleb's phone was never stolen." I answered myself.
"I thought you had almost caught me that time. I mean I was talking to Caleb and his phone was said stolen." He said. Wait...
"Are you taunting me right now? That I couldn't figure it out." I asked. I know he didn't mean that. I don't know why I said that.
"You know, I didn't mean it like that." He said softly.
"I don't know anything. I don't know you." I said with tears welling up in my eyes yet again.
"Clary-"
"So when you said you took pictures of me, it was..." I said, only to remind myself of more of his lies.
"It was also because I knew you'd leave me once you found out the truth and those pictures would be all that'd be left." He said.
"If you really cared whether I stayed in your life then you wouldn't have lied to me. Did you think I wouldn't help you guys if I knew the truth or what?" I cried.
"Clary, I..." He started but I cut him off.
"Don't add to your pile of lies. You can continue the story now."
"When we took you to the club, we knew Ethan would follow and it was the closest club to his hotel too. When he was there, we left..."
"to search his hotel for whatever information you needed and used me as a distraction for him." I completed for Harvey. He clearly wanted to say something but continued the story anyway.
"Yeah but we couldn't check everything specially his phone because it was with him. We had to do the distraction thing again so I convinced mom to host a family dinner and I texted Ethan from your phone to make sure he'd be there. Besides, I knew mom would ask him to stay with us."
"My phone?!?" I asked confused. When did he text Ethan from my phone.
"I borrowed it when you dropped your bag."
"Steal would be the appropriate word." I said.
"So, at the family dinner when I stormed out. I actually went upstairs where we got Ethan's phone. We found Derrina's number and texted her. And then all we could've done was to wait for her reply and hope she still loved Ethan enough to come here for him." Harvey finished.
"She replied?" I asked.
"She did. The other phone with me earlier was Ethan's and she had texted that she would meet him."
"Congratulations. Your plan worked perfectly." I said getting up to leave.
"No, it didn't. You were not supposed to find out like this!" Harvey said with tears in his eyes.
"It doesn't matter how I found out, Harvey. It's the fact that you've been lying to me from the start and the friendship I thought I had with the two of you was completely fake. Everything was just part of the plan. I can't believe I actually thought that I-" I shouted.
No, no, no. Did I just? Oh no! I was just going to say something which... I don't know what I was thinking?
I should just accept that everything that ever happened between Harvey and me was part of his plan. From the church to...
"Harvey, wait! What about the gun? The one you had with you at church." I asked.
Harvey's face completely paled whereas Caleb looked confused.
"What gun?" Caleb asked looking at Harvey.
