I love you. A phrase I had taken for granted up until the moment my mother breathed out those three words, her last words. It had been almost 5 years since she'd passed to that agonizing demon called cancer that slowly ripped my mother out of her body and into whatever it is you believe in. Now as I stand in front of my Dad and brother, the tears rolling down their cheeks and the line of snot running down my brother's nose I realize just how much I was going to miss them.

"Dad, Alec, stop crying I'll visit in the spring," I reassured as I placed my hand into the rat's nest of dark brown curls atop my younger brother's head. He had just graduated middle school and he had heard the tales of that scary place called high school and he's terrified because, well, I wasn't going to be there. It had been us three for a long time we've done everything together and have never been apart.

"Regan, call me when you guys get there-" I cut my dad off finishing the sentence he'd been repeating for weeks now, "Before bed When I wake up and when I go places, I know." Dad had always been protective and I can't figure out why I thought it would stop when I was sent off to college. I sighed and smiled looking at Alec who couldn't make eye contact with me all day, "Alec, I know it's terrifying and I know it's hard but you will be okay I promise." Just as I stopped talking I heard a loud beep and turned around to see one of my best friends hanging out the window of her old white Chevy.

Keinu has been my best friend since fifth grade. When we found out we were accepted to the same college we were ecstatic. I frowned at the thought that Enya wouldn't be able to join us. She's going to some college, I can't remember the name of, in Toronto. Nevertheless, we could always see each other during our breaks. I heard the loud beep again and laughed turning back around and hugging my Dad and Alec.

"I love you, both," I spoke letting go of them and grabbing my two gigantic suitcases full of clothes and my belongings before running to Keinu's truck and throwing the suitcases into the back seat and climbing into the passenger side. As I grabbed the seat belt I looked at Keinu as we both realized that this was it. A new start, nothing that would follow us, no embarrassing rumors or nicknames. Just fresh.

"You ready?" Keinu asked as my seat belt buckle clicked into the lock. I took a deep breath watching as she turned the key and started the truck and nodded, "Ready as I'll ever be." Keinu laughed and turned the music on full blast as she sped down the road. I watched as the houses in the neighborhood went by in little blobs of color. I sang along to the music playing and Keinu nudged me trying to get me more excited and energetic which only gave me more hope that this was going to be a good year.

Of course, we stopped on our way to Ottawa to say goodbye to Enya. She was finishing her packing and chilling with her family. She didn't need to leave for another few days. After visiting her and promising to video call her every chance we got we were back on the road. We made a few stops to grab some snacks. Our final stop right outside of Ottawa was a small coffee shop.

As Keinu and I sat drinking our coffee's she started blabbing on about all of the hot girls she would meet and parties and all kinds of things, I looked around the coffee shop. Glancing over at the opposite corner of the coffee shop I saw a man sitting alone with a newspaper in his grasp. He's fit in a nice pair of brown slacks and a white button-up, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. His dirty blonde hair slicked back out of his face. He picked up his coffee cup and I watched as his arm flexed and pressed against the tight sleeves of his shirt.

He was breathtaking. The way his right leg is propped up at an angle over his left, how his lips pursed around the rim of the coffee cup and how his adam's apple bobbed up and down as the liquid slipped itself passed his mouth and down his throat. He placed down the cup and looked in my direction, his dark blue eyes piercing my own, smirking before turning his attention back to his newspaper.

I felt a chill of embarrassment creep it's way up my back leaving a burning feeling on the nape of my neck. I just got caught checking a guy out, an extremely hot guy. Keinu's caramel-colored hand waved in my face bringing me back to my senses. "Did you hear anything I just said?" I could tell she was a bit hurt. "Yeah, yeah the parties. I can't wait. Can we get going? I want to get there and get settled in," I asked just wanting to leave the building. Keinu nodded grabbing her wallet and phone. "I'll start the truck, you got this one?" I smiled in answer walking to the register. I grabbed the allotted amount of cash from my wallet and pay before leaving.

As I hopped back into the truck and buckle up I gaze out the window startled at the sight. The man from the coffee shop was staring in the window right into my eyes. I clutched my chest over my heart. I hear a muffled "Your phone," as he holds up my black phone. I roll the window down embracing the unique smell of mahogany coming from the breathtaking man and grab the phone from him. Nodding a thank you at him before rolling the window back up.

I turn my head towards Keinu who looks shocked at the whole interaction that just happened. "Is it just me or is that man.." "..Beautiful?" I finished her sentence for her. "Yeah." Keinu looked dumbfounded and I giggled at her. "I told you there were gonna be hot people here!" She exclaimed almost further proving her point. I rolled my eyes at her knowing she was right and at the fact we would probably never see him again. Soon we would arrived at the place I would call home for the years to come, the University of Ottawa.
