"Abi! Why can't you go to my birthday party?" said my younger brother, Wallace.
"I already told you Wallace, I'm going out with my friends, I'll pick you up later alright?" I patted his head. "Besides, it would be lame if your big sister showed up." I passed Wallace his backpack and he was then brought out of the house and hopped into Grandma's car to go to the Diner which was where he would host his party. Inside the car he looked quite sad. I waved a last goodbye to him as I watched him leave.
I checked the time only to find out that I was minutes late for Nancy's party. Nancy was my friend, just a friend. She was that popular girl in school while you'd be her shadow. I honestly preferred to be her shadow, I wasn't really the attention seeker. Reason why I'm going to her party is... I don't know. I guess I just needed an excuse to not go to Wallace's party, as selfish as that sounds, I really didn't want to be in a room full of eight year olds. It was a good thing that Nancy's place was only a few houses away from mine, it would be a pain in the ass to walk all the way to the other side of town. I checked the house once again, locked the door and headed to Nancy's.
I should've known that walking in such a tight outfit was a horrible idea. I was perspiring from head to toe, even with the sunsetting. So much for dressing nice.
"Hey, Wheeler! What're you doing, walking?" I turned my head to the roadside only to see a bright red car with the head of Josh Black inside. Anyone could recognize him with his signature black, glossy pushed back hair and leather jacket. He'd dress like that to any event, even in school. "Hop in." he smirked. At the back seat all his make-out girls were gesturing me to come. Gross. I was not going to become one of his side chicks. Though, I could not resist but to get inside the air-conditioned car. I mean, I didn't expect myself to continue walking when I had the chance not to. It was just for a few seconds I had to be squashed in the back with those girls.
"There ya' go, ladies," Josh exclaimed. I was never going in his car again. It smelled like mixtures of strong perfume in there. Once I got off, I saw the freckled face of Nancy with her long, wavy ginger hair and emerald green eyes.
"Well don't just stand there," Her hands to her hips, "Why the hell were you with Josh?"
I stuttered, "Well..."
"It'll make people think of you as a whore!" did Nancy actually care so much about me? It was shocking to hear her say that. She then guided me into her house, no, mansion. She told me that her Father had bought four whole plots in the neighborhood just to build her humongous place in it.
"What are you staring for? It's not like you haven't been in here before," Nancy rolled her eyes. Sometimes I wondered why she chose me befriend. "Kyle! Over here!" Nancy raised her hand, which drew Kyle's attention immediately.
"Sick party, babe," He smirked, then kissed Nancy. She pushed him away.
"here," Nancy gave Kyle her empty bottle, expecting him to throw it away.
"If he weren't Scott's best friend, I would so dump him right now." she whispered to my ear, soft enough for no one else to hear. I felt horrible, knowing that Nancy was just using Kyle and I'm doing nothing about it. Though, As everyone else in school, even as her friend, I was scared of her. She had that power to make every student in the school turn against me.
Time flew by in the party really quick. From Seven, the clock turned Eight. From Eight, the clock turned Nine and finally from Nine, the clock turned Ten. So it was ten. it then struck me that I was supposed to pick Wallace at nine. He must still be waiting for me outside the diner!
"Urgh!" I groaned. Without informing Nancy of leaving the party, in the cold, rainy night, I rushed back to the house in just a few minutes and took Granda's car key. "Oh just start already, you old dump!" I yelled. I didn't care that neighbors were staring at me. Finally, the car started. I sped all the way to that diner in a few minutes. Lucky thing that this town was small.
Then there I was parked outside of the diner. I looked around to in see that only one car was in the lot. That car was mine. If I say so myself, I found this place creepy.
"Wallace!" I yelled. No reply. Perhaps he's asked his friend's parent to give him a lift? Though that's what I wanted to believe, I doubted so, Wallace was a shy boy.
Having another glance at the spooky place, I went in.
"Wallace!" I shouted once again. Still dead silence.
"Clank!" the sound of metal filled the room. Maybe it was Wallace.
"Wallace, is that you?" I said to the empty space. I then heard the same metal clank. The sound came from the stage, so then I took a step onto it, but the minute I took a step onto the plank, the wood creaked. This place must have been really old. How did Wallace even find this place anyway.on the back of the stage there were these... robots, but these were not just any robots, they were 7 feet tall.
"Stop!" a guy covered in blood held his hand up high, he shouted so loud that I bet even those walking by the diner would hear him. Just then, he fell onto the ground with a loud thud.
"AHH!" I shrieked. A cold sensation went down my spine and then, I heard the same noise of metal. I looked back behind me to see the robots gone. Though I knew how horrifying this was, my first intention was to aid this guy.
Police cars and an ambulance drove to the diner as soon as I dialed 911. Even my Grandma came in a rush when she heard that not only was Wallace missing, but her own granddaughter tried to go and find him without authorization. Upon seeing me, she grabbed me tightly to her arms.
"I heard about everything," she whispered, "Wallace is a shy, but brave boy. He can take care of himself for now."
I broke into tears and embraced her. I'm sure she hadn't known the real story, that I was the reason of him missing. If only I wasn't to engrossed in the party, Wallace would be home safe and sound. It was my fault.
The next day came. I barely got enough sleep and had dark circles under my eyes. Though I was in no mood to go to school, I had to be useful with what little money grandma and I had left for education. As said, I hated being the center of attention, but due to this occasion, my nightmare will come true. Even when I just get into the car, neighbors would stop and stare. Once I've reached school, all eyes pointed at me and people began to chatter. At the corner of my eyes, I saw Scott wave to get my attention. He walked towards me with a dull expression and placed his hand on my shoulder.
"This must be so hard for you, Abigail." He said. As usual, His messy blonde hair was in his sky blue eyes. He really did look concerned for me. Maybe it was because we were supposedly best friends as children. Maybe not. Us being best of friends all changed when he meddled with the wrong crowd, but I could still tell he cared in his eyes. Behind him was Nancy, she looked dull as well.
"Ive always liked Wallace," she gave me a tub of ice cream. I gave her a blank expression.
"I'm so sorry," she added, "You said ice cream helps you when you feel down... or at least that was what Scott said. Has your opinion changed so quick?"
I smiled. Throughout all my years in high school with Nancy, only now she has showed to be such a great friend of mine. I could tell from her tearstained eyes that she was broken by the news too. She always said that Wallace was like a brother of hers. Only for a short time I could keep it together. People who I have never met started to comfort me. Someone who I haven't talked to in years shows up. I didn't like that change. I knew this was only temporary - people being kind and friendly to me.
