1st String: Getaway

"MOM!"

Mom snickered, again. "I'm just joking. Kidding aside, you have superhuman strength, Natalie. You're strong. Just pushing them might throw them away for a good 5 meters. But listen, even if you have such power, you must settle for peace. If resolving the problem by negotiations isn't possible anymore, then make sure you are fighting for justice. Make sure you're fighting for the right cause, the good and sensible cause. Keep that in mind."

*flash*

I wiped the tears from my face. Even after 9 years, I still can't think of my mom without shedding a single tear. I looked at the ceiling and closed my eyes.

Mom, it's finished. My suffering has ended. Now, I can see the city for myself. Thanks for watching over me all the time.

I opened the door and went out, only to find Julius standing outside. "Um..can I... Can I help you?"

He frowned and took my hand. He put a key in it and closed it gently. I looked at him and smiled. "Thanks, Jul-"

I wasn't able to continue what I was saying because he suddenly hugged me, which took me by surprise. "Hey.. I'm sorry, all right? I wish you'd forgive me... Even just before you leave.."

This is totally unbelievable. Just when did my life become a 90's cliché hit movie? "Wow.. Where did that come from?"

"I'm serious!" Hey, he had me shutting up there! He's really scary when he's angry. "I know I've been a very bad friend to you, but.. Ugh! This is so dramatic... But um, I just want to say sorry.. For the second time.." He chuckled. This was so sudden. Ever since we were kids, if he was gonna have a conversation with other people, we actually rehearsed it. Just so he wouldn't embarrass himself if he would get the chance to talk to someone, which was somewhat useless since he'd always get tongue tied.

"I... I did something I was never supposed to do. And Natalie, I'm... I'm sorry for avoiding you for 9 years. I shouldn't have done that..."

"Wait," I pushed him slightly and looked at him. "What do you mean something you weren't supposed to do? Avoiding me is something you should do. Julius, I'm.. Not the person you think I am... I don't even think I can tell you what I exactly am.." I looked away and turned around to leave. There's too much tension, I can't handle it. But he stopped me and made me face him, both of his hands gripping my arms.

He stared at me as he said, "I know exactly what you are. The King told me."

My eyes widened. "But how...?"
