Carrie's POV
As I walked into the eatery, I knew I was in deep trouble. After I managed to secure a job at the eatery, I didn't want to lose it but it wasn't my fault for coming late.
I had to check up on my sick father at the hospital before coming to work.
Amanda looked at me before checking her wristwatch. Her eyes widened in surprise as I dropped my bag. I honestly didn't know the time but I knew I was really late for work.
"Carrie, don't tell me you're just coming now." She said.
I let out a low chuckle. "I'm seriously just coming. I know I'm late and I'm very sure Madam is not around." I murmured.
She chuckled and placed a tray on the table. "We don't even have many customers but you should come very early next time," she paused and gave me a cold stare before adding to her sentence. "Besides, Mrs Donna is around."
I let out a shrill cry and slumped down on the available chair beside me. No, this couldn't be happening.
This was not happening! Oh God.
"Wait, she said she would be traveling for a business meeting yesterday, why didn't she go?" I inquired, confused.
"Well, the meeting was postponed." She revealed.
I almost went insane. I knew she would definitely sack me. Mrs Donna didn't even like me being her staff, she was just this annoying and rude woman who only loved her family.
"How am I going to explain that I went to visit my sick brother at the hospital?" I asked.
She heaved a sigh and passed the tray to the waitress. "Look, you can talk to her later, just change into the new dress and do your waitress job."
I rolled my eyes, confused. What did she mean by new dress? "Are you talking about the new pink gown she asked us to use last week?"
Amada shook her head and whispered at me. "No, she changed the gown again, you shouldn't go and see her right now. Mrs Donna is really pissed off right now and she could verbally eat you alive."
Frowning, I replied. "Yeah, I don't think this is the right time to see her. I'll just wait till break."
I took the new blue gown from the table and went into the restroom. This was just annoying, why would she always change our gowns? After wearing the blue gown, I walked out of the restroom.
After taking the menu list from Amanda, I walked to the two guests that just came in and smiled at them. "Hi, welcome to Donna's restaurant, I'm Carrie. What would you like to have?" I asked them politely and handed the menu to them.
"Honey, I want fried rice and chicken, I also want braised rice with chicken stew. For my drink, I'd like to have mixed fruit juice and also, how could I forget my lovely desert? I'll have cream caramel and....."
The husband cut in. "She's just kidding, she'll just have only ice cream."
My eyes widened. Wow, she was extravagant and he was ......
Why didn't he tell her his budget before bringing her to an expensive restaurant? No, I just wish I could kick both of them out of the restaurant.
"No babe, I'm not kidding. I really want all those things I mentioned." She said with confidence, lacing her words.
I discovered that he didn't have enough cash to buy all those expensive meals so I decided to help him out. "I'm sorry but we don't have the meals you mentioned. We only have ice cream for now." I told her.
She glared at me in anger while the man smiled at me in appreciation. "What nonsense? What kind of stupid restaurant is this? What kind of stupid waitress are you?" She asked, annoyed as she almost got crazy.
The audacity!
No, this is not my restaurant, why should I fight back?
"I'm sorry ma'am." I apologized, resisting the urge to make her humble.
"Sorry for your unfortunate self. Honey, let's go to another restaurant. This place is freaking stupid." She yelled in a loud tone.
"Let's end this thing called relationship." The man told her before leaving in annoyance.
She screamed and ran out of the restaurant in confusion.
Amanda scoffed as I walked back to her. "I can't believe that they're still crazy ladies out there. I'm glad you saved the man even though he didn't deserve it."
I chuckled softly. "You won't blame her, she's probably just a spoiled and annoying daughter of a wealthy family." I replied.
"Definitely what I was thinking. How's your dad? Have you seen him since yesterday?"
"Yeah, I saw him this morning and I'll be going back there this evening. The doctor promised that he'll run a few tests to find out if he'll be needing surgery."
She exhaled slowly and sat down on the sofa. "I just hope he doesn't have to undergo a surgery because it's really going to be expensive." She said and I nodded.
She was very right, I silently hoped that he wouldn't undergo a surgery because I couldn't even afford the money. Where was I going to get money from?
My mom didn't even care about dad, she felt he caused his predicament by getting himself drunk all the time, she felt my dad was too strict on our family.
"Alright, I'll just check up on Mrs Donna now, I just hope she doesn't get mad at me for coming late to work." I replied and gently climbed the stairs to go to her main office.
As soon as I pushed the door open, she smiled at me. Was I dreaming? Why was she smiling at me when I thought she would sack me? "Hey Carrie, you look beautiful today." She commended and I faked a smile, still surprised by her behavior.
"Thank you, ma'am."
"You're welcome sweetheart, how was your night?" She asked.
No, this was odd.
Why was he being friendly this time?
"Cold ma'am and yours?"
"I enjoyed it, there's nothing more wonderful than living in a big mansion with my wonderful family." She answered with a smile.
"Ma'am, I'll be going...."
She cut in. "I have a favour to ask, I'll need your help in something." She finally murmured and I heaved a sigh of relief. I knew she wouldn't be kind for no reason.
I slowly felt goosebumps forming on my skin. What did she want to ask?
