The house reeked of silence, and suddenly the alarm ranged like church bells in her ear. She was awake but too tired, too aching to get off the bed. She was restless, uneasily moving on that queen size bed. She moved forcefully to make enough sound for him to hear, her silk sheets did her bidding by making enough slithering sound. She wanted him to come and lift her in his arms, kiss her cheek, forehead and finally her lips, but no sound of his footsteps reached her ears. With closed eyes, her mind raced to the conclusion of him not being there.

"Adam, honey." No response confirmed her suspicion. The thought of him leaving before waking her up made her blood boil. Not today, not today he could have stayed for a bit woken her up and left. She just came back after 15 days, and on top, it's their anniversary, she knew she passed out but she was tired after a 14 hours flight. But he never behaved this way before, was her mistake that grave to make him this angry. She searched her mind for recent events and then got angry on herself; she should have been awake last night when he got home. It came to her all of the sudden and it made her sad more than angry. She hasn't talked to him for three whole days. She was trying to remember the last conversation they had, she shouted a lot. Called him an idiot and claimed to marry him was one of her biggest mistakes.

Pushing her face in her pillow she screamed, more than anyone else on herself. She shouldn't have lost her calm, her composure. He was just trying to make sure she was okay. Just because her colleagues don't get a call from their partner's every day doesn't mean he was possessive or overprotective. It was just how he was, as always. Taking care of her was like his favourite time-pass. But where is he now, she knew she had been a bitch in the last couple of months. Her anger got better of her as always and she took it all out on him. He didn't complain even, he said it was her right as his wife to take it all out until she feels better. It was just this behaviour being all goody-goody guy, infuriated her more. Raising her head off the pillow she realized the sun coming up the horizon. She will be late for work if she doesn't get up quickly.

Looking around in the room she felt truly alone, she never felt that way before. No matter where she was, no matter where she was travelling for how long she never felt alone. He was always there, somehow she always felt him near him. She looked for her purse her phone to check her messages; he wouldn't leave without saying good morning.

"I threw it against the wall and it smashed," she said to no one in particular. That's why she didn't talk to him for the whole three days. That's why she wanted to surprise him with a nice tie she bought in states for him. She knew it would be a poor choice as an anniversary gift but "he is too hard to buy something for". She didn't want to buy him something which he wouldn't like. But he will never say anything even if she bought him a poop coloured tie with big black polka dots on it. That's how he was, her love, her husband, her best friend, her soul-mate, and yet she dumped all her frustration on him.

Her suitcase stood packed, she didn't even bother to open and put her clothes in the laundry. Still sitting on the bed she thought about what to wear and suddenly her gaze fell upon a sleek black dress which was hanging next to her dressing table. "That's why I married you, did you know that?" he always knew what she might need and made sure she has it. Five years of marriage and still he does all of this as a newlywed couple. She smiled to herself remembering their yearly anniversary trips to South East Asia last year. Sleeping on that cold sand with salty air in her hairs, using his chest as a pillow, listening to his thumping heart drumming in synchrony with the sea. She felt a pang of pain her heart and a wave of sudden rage came over her.
"How could he have left today out of all days", she made mistakes she knew but still, he promised he will never change.

She got up finally and went to wash. She pushed the plunger on her shampoo bottle and suddenly a smile came on her face. She wanted him here, right now, in shower with her. Kissing her lips maybe even shampooing her hair helping her wash-up, suddenly a small pinch made her realize that she bit her lip just little too hard, she could feel the blood drop oozing from her skin. But that pain didn't matter, neither her aching body, the only thing which mattered that she has to make it up to him no matter what. She has to like her life depends on it, which kind of does.
She heard the phone ring, and his voice telling the caller to record the message after the beep. Suddenly she clenched her legs together, getting weak in knees all of the sudden. Maybe he is leaving her a message telling her how much he loves her and time for their date. If he didn't make a reservation she would kill him. But if he didn't she could do it herself, for a change be in-charge of things like this.
