“Nothing really,” I said.

“Cool, walk to class with me?” he asked. I nodded and walked to class with him. We really didn’t say anything.

When we got to class, we were almost late. I quickly took a seat. Declan raised his eyebrows at me. I looked away and looked for Addie, but she was nowhere to be seen.

“Alright, class,” the teacher started, “real easy today, just pair up.”

Declan walked over to me.

“Partners?” he asked.

“Um, su-“

“Sorry, dude, my partner,” Evan said, wrapping his arms around me.

“No problem,” Declan said, walking away. In the end, he worked with this other guy that I didn’t really no the name of.

I didn’t know if I should thank Evan or smack my heavy book on his head for doing that.

“So, what are we supposed to do?” he asked.

“Just translate these,” I said, pointing to the little slip of paper. He nodded.

“I suck at these,” he said, frowning. “I barely passed.”

I smiled. “Well, I pretty much am good at this,” I said, a little braggingly.

“Oh, your such a big head,” he said, ruffling my hair. I giggled. The teacher gave me a look that told me to get to work. I blushed, and hung my head down low.

“You sure blush a lot,” Evan said.

“Thanks for the notice,” I said sarcastically.

“Just an observation,” he said.

It reminded me a lot of what Addie had said.

“You’re a lot like Addie,” I said, looking amused.

He grimaced slightly. “Thanks.”

“What, you don’t like her?” I asked.

“A bit intimidating for a girl,” he said. I laughed. Addie could seem like that sometimes.

“She’s not really like that,” I assured him. He shrugged.

“Doesn’t matter anyways,” he said. “I’ve already got my sights set on someone.”

“Really?” I asked. “Who?”

“Can’t tell,” he said, pretending to zip his lips.

I rolled my eyes. “I can keep a secret,” I said. He grinned and leaned dangerously close to me. If he were to move like an inch…

“So can I,” he whispered staring into my eyes.

A smirk grew on his face and he pulled away, making me blush at the close proximity of us earlier.

“You’re so cute,” he said, laughing.

“Shut up,” I growled, which made him laugh even harder. He was practically rolling on the floor. I just didn’t see that amusement in it.

“Get back to work,” the teacher barked. Everyone turned to stare at us with questioning looks. I kept my head down low while Evan kept his head in the air, as if to be basking in all the attention.

I rolled my eyes. From what I know about Evan so far is that he’s a annoying jerk. But then again, at least he’s trying to be friends with me. I think.

Soon enough, the bell rang. Thankfully, but not soon enough.

“Hey, see you at lunch, yeah?” Evan asked. I nodded and watched him blend into the crowd.

A hand appeared in my shoulder, making me jump. I turned around to see Declan.

I blushed. “Sorry,” I said. He sent me a lopsided grin.

“No worries,” he said. “My fault.”

“Have you seen Addie?” I asked.

Nope, probably skipping,” he said, shaking his head. I groaned.

“Ok, thanks,” I said, walking away.

“Bye Ever!”

“Bye,” I mumbled, even though I knew it was a waste of breath and that he wouldn’t be able to hear me.

When I got home that day, I was exhausted. Evan kept on bothering me today! At first, I found it cute and amusing, but at the end of the day, it was highly annoying. And the thing was, he knew he was bothering me so it totally egged him on. I know I’m shallow by saying this, but if it hadn’t been for his looks, I would’ve given up being friends with him.

“Ever, that you?” asked my mom. I heard her voice from upstairs.

Sure enough, when I rounded the corner, I saw her heading down the stairs. She smiled when she saw me.

“How was school?” she asked. Isn’t that the typical question? Like, isn’t there anything else to ask?

“Fine,” I said. She frowned.

“You look a bit tight,” she said.

Am I that easy to read?

“I’m fine, mom,” I assured her. She looked at me skeptically but didn’t say anything.

“Dad’s asleep,” she said. I nodded. I went up to my room and shut the door. I plopped on the bed and a huge yawn escaped my lips.

Suddenly, my phone rang, indicating a text. I looked and saw that it was from Addie.

Hang out tomorrow?

I quickly responded to her, telling her that I would love to.

Cool stuff.’

I smiled and finished my homework.

Before I knew it, it was dark out and I found it hard to keep awake. Right as I hit the pillow, my eyes shut closed and I fell into a nice, blissful sleep where there were no worries.

Wouldn’t that be the life?

*What did Addie mean?

Was there a meaning?

What about Evan?

Again, how does he fit?

Who does he like?
