They are the NOVA.
They are our greatest adversary.
NOVAs are trans-dimensional beings who invade our world and attack us time and time again; they have been our enemy for years. Their reason for attacking us is still unknown, but the danger they pose to humanity's continued existence is severe.
When the first one appeared in 2012, the various armies of the world retaliated with every conventional weapon, short of nuclear, in their arsenal. Their efforts proved fruitless.
The NOVA's unique abilities overpowered the weapons of Man, their most effective being a defensive barrier that could prevent the movement of anything that was caught within its area of effect, even nuclear armaments, used later in desperation, could not overcome it.
In the years following the initial invasion, this power would be named Freezing.

It is so mankind can live, it's so that they can continue to be human. That was the thought that ran through Dr. Gengo Aoi's mind as he walked through the cold winter air towards the main entrance of his research lab.
That line had become his survival mantra, it was his way of fortifying his resolve in the face of things that he had done, acts committed just to give mankind a fighting chance against the beings known as the NOVA.
He had repeated that line to himself for so many times over the long years, he couldn't remember a time when he didn't need to use the mantra.
"But if there is a time, then it was likely in those simpler days, before the experiment, before the lake and before her." He thought to himself.
Gengo signed, now is not the time to think about the past; besides, even after all it has wrought; I've never regretted the encounter that happened that fateful day.
Right now, I have to focus on the future. He reminded himself as the biometric fingerprint and retina scanners confirmed his identity and gave him access to the facility proper.
As he walked through the corridors of the research facility, the elderly scientist felt that odd old mix of anxiety and nostalgia he always got when he came to Laboratory 13.
The reason was simple; a lot of the most prominent good and bad events in Gengo Aoi's life could be traced back to this research lab.
Both the life and death of those dear to him could be attributed to crumstances that started in this building.
Because of that, Lab 13 gave him a lot of mixed feelings
Not that the average individual would ever think of Gengo Aoi has sentimental.
That was due to the outward persona that he had to develop to protect his many secrets, people never realized how idealistic Gengo really was at heart.
