Her heart skipped several beats as Pierson wandered cautiously through the dense thickets of Whitlands Wood. It was unknown to her whether or not she would meet the person of her desire, or if this venture was simply a foolish lure into a trap. However, whatever it was, Pierson was determined to succeed. The note left in her locker at school seemed anything but unbelievable due to the freshly signed signature and ancient wax seal stating the letters ".....". As she ambled deeper and deeper along the path, Pierson began to realize how foolish she was to believe the note, guiding her into the dangerous woods. After all, she wasn't the most popular girl at her school - Whitlands Middle School - therefore this by any means good be an impotent prank played by any of the other kids that would lead to her getting bullied far worse, and lower her self esteem even more. Suddenly, she heard a CRACK! Pierson paused, standing as still as possible, watching and listening for any suspicious activity happening around her. Then she looked down...
It was just a twig.
Pierson sighed and she picked up the broken twig from beneath her boot and snapped it apart even more in a fit of rage. It had scared her more than even imaginable!

She trekked on, constantly having to pull her heavy backpack back up onto her shoulders. Just then, Pierson got a call. Fretfully, she reached into her pocket and pulled out her Nokia cellphone which her mother had gifted her for her 14th birthday! By now, everyone else at school had the most expensive, most brand new phones to exist: iPhone 11s and 12s and those sorts! But no, she had a boring old Nokia on which she could only call people. That too, the only numbers saved on it was her Mother's and 999!
Regardless, however, she read the name, praying that it wasn't an unknown number. It was her Mother. Instantly, Pierson picked up the phone.
"Pierson, honey, where are you? School finished an hour ago," came the voice from the other end of the phone.
"Mum.. well you see... I got a n-note in m-my locker at school and it t-told me that -"
Pierson thought to herself. Maybe she shouldn't tell her Mum about the situation just yet.
"Told you what!?"
"Uhh... th-that Margeret invited me over. Yeah. I'm at Margeret's house."
"Hmm... ok then. You know you aren't supposed to go anywhere without asking me first but I suppose it's alright because it's Margeret. Just remember for next time, honey. And be back in 3 hours, I'm preparing pastries tonight."
"S-sorry Mum. I'll remember. S-see you then. Bye."
"B-"
Pierson hung up the phone with haste; she didn't want anything to give away the fact that she wasn't actually at Margeret's house. Not the snap of a twig, not the rustling of the leaves, not anything.
