💚Chapter 1💚

 I was running, but I didn't know what I was running from. All that I knew was if I slowed down, I wouldn't live to see tomorrow... I heard it call my name in a raspy, shaky, spine-tingling voice, "Caatthhhrrrrriinneee...~" It was getting closer, I could almost hear its breaths. I started to slow my pace. I didn't want to, but it was already too late. I had almost slowed to a speed walking pace. I felt its breath on my neck, "You'll soon become one, of, us...." it said in the same voice as before. It suddenly bit my neck so hard, I screamed at the top at my lungs from the pain...

  I screamed so loud that I'm pretty sure that if I went a pitch louder, I would've woken up my dad. My Abuela Carmen rushed into my room, "Cathrine!! Oh my goodness, are you okay???" she exclaimed. "Sorry Abuela Carmen... it was just a bad dream..." I apologized. "*Sigh* I am just grateful that you're okay..." she said as she cupped my cheeks and kissed my head. "Are you sure that you are okay??" she asked again. "Si Abuela..... I am sure..." I told her. "Alright, come out when you're ready... remember, you have that college sign-up today!!" she reminded me. "¡Sí sí! lo, se Abuela.." (translate: yes yes!! I know grandma..) I told her. "I'll get ready as soon as I can Abuela Carmen.." She smiled at me and walked out, shutting the door behind her. I got dressed for my big day and walked into the kitchen to eat breakfast.

I walked into the kitchen. Isaw my Abuela Carmen making bacon and eggs, and my Abuelo Benjamin sitting at the table reading his daily newspaper while drinking coffee. "Buenos días Abuelo Benjamin!" (t: Good morning grandpa Benjamin) I greeted him. "Buenos días Cathrine..." (t: Good morning Catherine) said my Abuelo. "Is PaPa still asleep?" I asked. "*Sigh* I'm afraid so..." My Abuela answered. "He sleeps all day and goes to his useless fiestas at night..." She said more angrily while aggressively flipping some bacon... My Abuela Carmen is usually the sweetest person on earth but when she is mad... you'll never hear the end of it... "Abuela... Papá está pasando por algunas cosas, dale algo de Tiempo para que se resolve..." (t: dad is going through some things, give him some time to sort himself out...) I reassured her. She now had a fire in her eyes. "¡VICTOR HA PASADO POR MáS DE 19 AñOS! ¡DEBE SER FINO!" (t: VICTOR HAS BEEN GOING THROUGH THIS FOR 19 YEARS!!! HE SHOULD BE FINE!!) I knew she was very mad at my dad... whenever she talks all in Spanish, then she's upset about something.. I hugged her tight, and she hugged back. I heard her muffled cries through my shirt. My Abuelo came over to hug her as well. "Even though I didn't know her at all... I bet that she was the best.... she probably would've wanted us to move on... he has to take this on his own... he will be fine... I promise Abuela Carmen..." I told her. She stopped her tears and kissed my head. "You look and act so much like your mother..." she told me. "So she was the best??" I joked. Abuela laughed at my joke. "she was unique, one-of-a-kind, smart, beautiful, and wanted a child more than anything else in the world... too bad that she couldn't live to see how much you have grown.." she smiled, but it quickly faded away. "She was my light to my world.." "And she still is Abuela... in your heart... she is looking down from heaven right now and watching me grow into the person that she was.." I calmed her worries. Her smile came back to life but she suddenly realized that I still had college sign-up. "Oh no!! Catherine!! your college sign-up!! your gonna be late!!" she worried. "Abuela! it's okay.." I grabbed a piece of bacon. "I can make it if I run... stay here with Abuelo... I'll be back at around 2 okay?" I said. "well, if you think so then okay..." she said. I rushed out of the door. "Bye Catherine!! Good-luck!!" said my Abuela. "Good-Bye Abuela and Abuelo!!! ill see you later!!" I shouted as I walked and started to speed walk to the college.
