Life of a High School Loner

One Fateful Night

"Hey mom, tonight is Adalyn and Maria's older brother's graduation, can I go? I can go spend the day at Amiranda's and then go to the graduation afterwards, she only lives 2 minutes away from the school." I said hopefully.

"How will you get home? I'm not driving 30 minutes just to pick you up" my mom responded." Are you sure you want to burden your sister to see if you can go over to her house?"

"I'll see if Adalyn or Maria can bring me home, and I'm sure Amiranda wouldn't mind me coming over, I'll babysit for a couple hours before so she'll be happy for me to come over."

"Ok, fine. You can go"

"Thankyouthankyouthankyou!!" I said overjoyed, I was gonna see my besties for the first time in forever!!

That afternoon  I went to my sisters house to hang out and be close to the school for graduation. My sister is big on makeup so she did my makeup all fancy. I felt gorgeous! I walked over to the school feeling like a queen. I was a few minutes early and neither of my friends were there so I just stood in the corner looking at my phone. A few minutes later Adalyn got there. I went up to her and said hello, she was a bit preoccupied with getting stuff for her brother so I went back to standing in the corner. It was at that moment that I saw Maria, she has just gotten here with her sisters. I walked over to her and said hi. She totally ignored me, didn't even say hi back to me. That was my first clue that tonight wasn't gonna be as great as I thought. I wandered randomly around the gymnasium waiting for the graduation to start.

When people started to sit down I went up to Maria. "Can I sit with you, I don't have anybody else to sit with and well, you're my bestie, so can I sit with you?"

"Sorry, this row is for family only" she said blandly, not even sounding sorry. Those words were like little daggers in my heart. This was yet another thing that made me realize tonight was going to be one of the worst nights of my life. I went and sat in a row with some people I go to church with. Me and Klara are friends, but because she's 5 years younger than me, she usually hangs out with other people. A few minutes later I saw Hanna, one of Maria's closest friends. I went to sit with her, but then Maria motioned for her to sit with her. Then I saw Adalyn go sit with them. I felt a little tear roll down my cheek. Why would she let Hanna and Adalyn sit with her and not me, I thought I was her bestfriend. During the graduation, I saw them whisper stuff to each other and laugh and I couldn't help it, the tears started flowing harder and harder.

"Are you okay?" Klara whispered in my ear.

"Yea, I'm good. Something just happened and well, it really hurt. But I'm okay" I responded, as my voice cracked.

"You sure?? Do you need to go the bathroom?"

"I'm good. Is my mascara smearing? "

"No, your good"

A few minutes later I texted Page, my older sister " I kinda regret coming to the graduation."

She responded a few minutes later "Why?"

"Maria, Adalyn and Hanna kinda ditched me🙁"

"Dang girl, I'm sorry. FAKE"

"And now I feel like I know no one here"

"EXPOSED. BITCHES IMA BEAT THEM UP"

"Awwww"

"Girl I got you, if you don't want to stay you can just go to Amiranda's"

"I'm gonna stay, mrs. Kirstie's gonna take me to her house, can you come pick me up from there?"

"Sure thing sis"

A few minutes later I texted another friend, Ashlyn, she doesn't live in Tennessee like me, she lives in Georgia, but her boyfriend goes to the school. She had been here a few days ago, but had left before the graduation. "Wish you had stayed for the graduation!!"

Maybe a minute later she responded "Yeah:("

"Adalyn, Maria and Hanna ditched me and now I'm alone😕"

"Ngl, doesn't surprise me. I wouldn't ditch you!"

"Yeah id kinda seen it before too, Maria always avoids hanging out and talking"

"Yeah we aren't friends"

"Yeah Adalyn told me that before"

"Really?! Why they going around talking about me? Oooo that makes my blood boil, she doesn't even know me. Whatever I don't need that"

"I asked Adalyn if she wanted to come say hi to you the other day when I saw you at church and she said she didn't like you because Maria doesn't like you."

"Wow that's stupid. Oh well, I don't have time for little kids. She doesn't even know my side of the story."

"Idek what happened but I know you pretty well and I know you are an amazing person."

"Thank you girl. You need to tell Cynthia that Adalyn is letting one person dictate the thoughts that she has of another human being and that is very immature signed Jason Rice. I told Jason (Ashlyn's boyfriend) about it and he said this."

We continued talking the rest of the graduation and I finally stopped crying.
