CHAPTER NINE (FLASHBACK)✔️

Start from the beginning

"I'm very sorry, I was just playing with Tatia and I must have gotten carried away making daisy chains--"

"Nonsense Arabella! I just saw Tatia walking back not only 5 minutes ago," Mikael said.

"Oh! Well you see I got terribly lost the way back to the village and ran into a ghastly beast! My father, you should have seen it! I was able to make it back alive," Arabella said, adding a breathless affect to her voice.

"Very well, girl. Clean up and sit down," Mikael commanded.

Arabella grinned. She had that sort of reckless grin, or mischievous grin that suited well with her personality. Her grin made you want to smile back and commit a deadly sin. Her grin was a rather rare one, normally never seen on her face. She usually smirked or gave a small smile.

"Wipe that stupid smile off of your face, child," He snapped.

Arabella's mouth quickly turned to a frown.

"Father, are you alright?" She asked, her young voice a bit quieter than usual.

"Of course! You stupid child, why wouldn't I be? Why must you ask a silly question?" He questioned her maliciously.

"Father, it was just a question. Why are you getting angry over it?" Elijah stepped in, at the time Elijah was a little older than Niklaus.

"Stay out of this, Elijah." Mikael snapped.

Mikael was rarely happy, normally brooding and irritated This was the norm for Arabella. She quietly sat down and ate her food.

Arabella cautiously took a bit out of her broccoli, instantly recoiling.

"What is this?" She whined. She eyed the green food in disgust.

"Eat it," Mikael demanded.

"It tastes horrid," Arabella declared.

"It's broccoli," deadpanned Kol.

"It's awful," Arabella stated, with a tone of disgust.

"Just eat it, and be thankful that your mother put it out for you," Mikael said, getting even more irritated by his daughter's reaction.

"I do not want to eat it," said Arabella.

Mikael stood up. "I will shove the food down your throat, child!" he bellowed.

Arabella gulped and nodded fearfully. The odd thing was that Arabella never got afraid of anything. Seeing the fear in Arabella's eyes was something new to the Mikaelson's.

Arabella brought the green vegetable to her mouth and ate it with an emotionless expression. She sat in quiet and did not speak for the rest of the night. It was obvious Mikael's yelling had the strawberry-blonde scared, and in his eyes was a coldness she could not decipher. It was almost like hatred, but not quite deep enough. It was almost like craziness, but not crazy enough.

Arabella lay on the straw mattress as a storm went on. After a few moments of silence, Arabella was relaxed - but another crash of thunder came and she yelped.

Kol heard, and climbed over to Arabella. "You alright, sister?"

Arabella looked at Kol, not wanting to bother him with her problems. "Fine, the thunder just gave me a fright."

Kol nodded and smiled a boyish smile, a rare smile that Arabella was shocked to see.

"You know Bel's, you were very brave out there," He said.

Arabella smiled a bit at her nickname. "How so?"

"I don't think I've seen anyone stand up to Father like that." Kol whispered.

"Well, Father is a big fat meanie," she whispered back.

Something flashed through Kol, as if a distant memory. "You have no idea."

Arabella frowned, not getting the hidden message from the now young boy. "No idea about what?"

Kol had smiled, not wanting to bother Arabella with his problems. "Fine."

Deep down Arabella knew there was something wrong, but let it slide and nodded.

Kol got up to leave but Arabella's voice stopped him.

"Hey Kol?" She asked in a whisper.

"Yes?"

She smiled her rare grin. "You're a goofball."

Kol smiled a matching grin of Arabella's. "You too."
