Chapter 10 - Eternal Flame

Start from the beginning

The paramedics started doing whatever they could to try to bring you back, but there was nothing they could do.
Your heart had stopped beating long time ago before they arrived.

The first responders put your body in the ambulance they arrived with and were going drive you to the nearest hospital so they could take care of you.

"Are you her family?" One of the paramedics asked Hawks who was trying to enter the ambulance.

"She doesn't have any family!" Hawks said in a defensive voice, they let him in since he was a well known hero.
He held your hand the whole way to the hospital, feeling how your once warm skin was turning cold.

Suddenly he felt your hand move, not just move, you took a hold of his hand.
Hawks looked at your body with wide eyes, not seeing any signs that you were still alive. He pointed it out to the paramedic and they checked your pulse again, but there was nothing.

"It's normal for bodies to move after death", the paramedic pointed out. Hawks knew that.. But this seemed different.

At the hospital they checked your vitals again just to make sure you were dead, they found no signs of you being alive.
Hawks made sure that they kept you under watch in case something happened and he even arranged you your own room at the hospital.
The doctors thought that it would all be for nothing since you were already gone, but they did it anyway since the top hero demanded it.

You were now laying on the bed in hospital clothes, your skin was discolored and cold to touch.
Hawks sat on a chair next to the bed, holding your arm and watching you, feeling like you could wake up at any second.
Hours passed and nothing happened, Hawks felt his eyes getting tired, it was 4am at this point.

Suddenly he felt a vibration in his pocket, he took his phone out and saw that Dabi was calling him. Hawks answered without hesitation.

"You little shi-" Hawks started, but was quickly interrupted by Dabi.

"Choose another mission, you failed this one, bird boy", Dabi stated from the other side of the line.

"... What makes you think I want anything to do with The League after that stunt of yours?" Hawks asked with a slight confusion in his voice, while still keeping up the angry tone.

"You came to us for a reason.. The next mission will be harder.. you know, since you messed up this one so badly", Dabi said with an annoyed voice.

"Fine, I'll do anything that doesn't have to do with Y/n", Hawks said strictly.
He listened closely to the villain, the next mission would be killing someone of high profile.

"I'll do it.." Hawks said shortly.

"Good bird, don't be late this time or it's you who ends up dead.." Dabi said before hanging up the phone. Hawks placed his phone back in his pocket.

"Work calls.." Hawks started speaking to you, he felt dumb for doing it. You couldn't hear him anymore, but it made him feel like you could.
"I'll come check on you later.. Just know.. That I'm sorry, kid.. I know I promised to keep you safe.. I wish I could turn back time. There was so much I wanted you to know.." Hawks spoke as few tears fell down his face, he didn't cry often, but now he needed it.

Before leaving the room he pressed his lips against your forehead as a good bye.

How long had it been with all this darkness, was this what afterlife was? If this was it you had rather chosen hell just to feel something.
You had been floating in the darkness for what felt like days or years at this point. You were just waiting for something to happen, but nothing ever did.
