The sun had just dropped behind the mountains, yet a slight glow still remained in the sky. A team of scientists was gathered at the crash site of a meteor near the city of Vallone. The meteorite was now lying in a crater filled with large rocks and boulders, but it was easily identifiable by its purple glow.

"What is that glow caused by?" one scientist asked. A mage answered,

"It looks like magic. I'm not sure what kind yet, though." She bent down and nudged the extraterrestrial rock.

"I'd like to take a sample of it," another scientist declared, stepping forward. He took out a pickaxe and began to chip away a chunk of the meteorite. Just as it fell into his hand, the team heard the sound of rocks tumbling, followed by a sound none of them could recognize. It was like a combination of a chirp and a whisper. Then one of the scientists spoke up,

"What is that?" Every head turned to see a creature about the size of a large horse, approaching them on six legs. It curiously scanned its four glowing eyes across the group.

"I think this is a new species," one of the scientists said quietly. "Or a new genus."

One of the mages suggested, "We should study these creatures, right? Do we want to try and capture--" he stopped. One of the braver mages had already stepped forward.

"Hey," she said to the creature. "We're not gonna hurt you, we just want to--" As she put out a hand, suddenly the creature hissed. It began to move closer to the group, of which one shouted, "Stop!" It didn't matter who the order was meant for, because neither the mage or the monster stopped. The mage ran to the rest of the group, who began shouting as the beast hissed again. This prompted more monsters to emerge from the rocks and trees, all whispering and growling as the intruding humans ran to their vehicles. The creatures did not chase them, but they watched as they drove down into the foothills, then into the city.

This was the first time these creatures had encountered humans, but it certainly would not be the last.
