"renjun, i told you i was watching the match!" mark told from the other side of the line. "it's the final, i can't miss it."

"why am i friends with you again?" renjun mumbled.

"i'm sorry, but couldn't your princes drop you?"

"they could have if i hadn't told them you would pick me up."

"oh..." mark responded flatly.

"anyway, i'm coming. if you want to be forgiven please prepare dinner." renjun warned his best friend.

"okay, but you'll have to eat whatever i prepare."

"better be good or you won't be forgiven."

"whatever." mark chuckled.

"see you, asshole."

"love you." renjun could hear mark smiling so he hung up.

renjun started walking in direction of his and mark's shared apartment.

as best friends, they had decided to rent a small house and share the bill so that it could be more affordable and so that they could both have enough money to pay for their studies as well. they had always been comfortable around each other, so it had never been a problem to live together.

the only problem was that renjun hadn't got his driver's licence yet, obligating mark to come and pick him up everywhere – or not if there was something more interesting to watch on tv.

renjun lifted his eyes and cursed when he saw the darks clouds threatening to pour out their content of water right on renjun's head. of course, the boy had no umbrella, why would he bring one, it was sunny a bit earlier.

renjun accelerated his steps when few raindrops started falling from the sky. he was ten minutes away from his house. there was still a chance for him to arrive not completely drenched in water.

the chinese jumped in fear when a lightning strike cropped up in the now dark sky, soon followed by the loud thunder. he wasn't scared of thunder, but it wasn't this reassuring either.

he was about to speed up when a small sound made him stop in his tracks.

there was no reason for his to stop. the rain was pouring hard, the thunder was roaring in the dark sky, but he still stooped to listen carefully to the almost inaudible sound.

renjun approached a pile of soaked cardboard boxes, from where he thought having heard a noise, pushed them aside, and that's where he saw it.

a small white kitten was laying inside a box, trembling because of the cold and meowing either in fear or in discomfort, renjun didn't know.

renjun quickly dried his hands using the insides of his jacket before approaching his hand from the kitten.

"hello kitty." renjun crouched next to the box. "are you alone?"

as soon as renjun's hand touched his soft fur, the kitty glued his small body to his palm to get some warmth. renjun studied the cat looking for any sign of his owner on the boxes and around his neck, but there was none.

another lightning appeared, scaring the kitten. "you know what?" renjun spoke to himself. "i'll bring you home. and tomorrow, i'll take you to the animal protection society or something like that." renjun said before picking the kitten up and hiding it inside his jacket.

renjun ran to his house, careful not to squeeze the animal too much, nor to trip and fall on his stomach. when he could finally see his house, he sighed in relief, before entering the property and knocking on the door repeatedly.

mark opened immediately.

"took you some t- oh my god! you're soaked wet!" he exclaimed pulling his best friend inside and rushing to the bathroom to take a towel.

he came back to the living room in a hurry, stopping in his tracks when he saw the stupid grin on renjun's face.

"i saved a kitten, look!" mark blinked.

"you cannot be mad at me mark..." renjun pouted when he saw mark almost throwing the tv at him for bringing a cat into their house.

"watch me." mark growled, his grip on the towel tightening.

"if you had picked me up this wouldn't have happened." renjun hmphed.

"and it's going to be my fault now?" mark raised a brow.

renjun took the kitten in his arms and approached mark. "look at its cuteness mark." he said, stretching his arms so that the cat was centimetres away from mark's face.

"meow." the cat meowed, tilting his head cutely while looking into mark's eyes.

"disgusting." mark pushed renjun's arms away. "you know very well i hate furry animals with four legs and a tail." mark spat, heading to the kitchen.

"don't listen to mark. you're the cutest kitten ever." renjun scratched the cat's head as the animal purred. "i'm going to take good care of you."
