On her first day as a third-year high school student, she entered an empty classroom, anticipating the arrival of her friend, Calexine. To pass the time during this wait, she decided to explore the school campus.
After several minutes of walking, Hazen opted to rest. She settled onto a bench in the waiting area and retrieved her cellphone to play games. Upon realizing the extent of her stay, Hazen decided to proceed to their classroom.
As Hazen walked away from the shed, she paused, noticing a tall, handsome man engrossed in a book on a nearby bench.
He seemed familiar, prompting Hazen to approach him and ask, "Have we met before?"
The man raised his head, scrutinizing her before responding, "Excuse me?"
Hazen reiterated, "You look familiar. Have we met before?"
He then stated, "I apologize, miss, but I don't believe we have met, and I don't know you." With that, he rose and departed, leaving Hazen standing alone.
As Hazen proceeded towards her classroom, her thoughts were consumed by the individual she had encountered earlier. "He looks incredibly familiar, but I cannot recall where or when I might have seen him," she mused.
Suddenly, a voice exclaimed, "Hey!" causing Hazen to startle.
"My goodness, Lexie! What is wrong with you?!" Hazen retorted, her tone reflecting annoyance.
"Oh, I apologize! However, I believe I should be asking you that question. You appeared quite preoccupied, continuously talking to yourself while I was attempting to speak with you, yet you paid no attention. Is something amiss?" Calexine inquired.
Hazen responded, "Nothing, I'm just thinking."
Calexine, observing her with curiosity, then pressed, "What is it?"
Hazen, with a glare, stated, "It is none of your business."
"Psh! Very well," Calexine, conceded.
Following their class, Calexine and Hazen made their way to the parking lot. Calexine extended an invitation to Hazen for an overnight stay at her residence, but Hazen declined, citing numerous commitments. Consequently, Calexine did not press the matter, and Hazen subsequently entered her car and drove home.
...
Minutes later, she arrived home and proceeded directly to her room to change her clothes.
Upon changing, she exited her room and entered her eldest sister's room. Inside, she observed her eldest sister, Hazel, seated in a chair, gazing at the exterior view.
She approached her sister and sat beside her. "Hey, how are you doing?" Hazen inquired, but Hazel remained unresponsive, continuing to gaze outside, seemingly oblivious to Hazen's presence.
