A quick authors note,
This book is set just before the Battle Of The Inhumans at the end of AOS Season 2. So Simmons is not yet trapped, she is still on the outs with Fitz and Coulson is still director. New S.H.I.E.L.D is still growing with Bobbi and Mac within the team.
There are some retcons.
The Inhumans leader is NOT Skye/Daisy's mother. Her mother is Agent May. Slightly crazy I know, but watching the show I always thought that was what it was going to be, and I like the idea better. She is still divorced from the Doctor after the events in Bahrain, but she had a one night stand with Skye's father from the show.
This is a story about Agent Simmons using her time at the Academy to solve a problem faced in the present day.
