It was that time of the year again. When the teachers gave the students "progress report" sheets, saying how they were doing in the semester. Progress Reports are mainly for the students who don't really care about school but still needed to pass.

They consisted of your current grade in every class and what grade you were looking at at the end of the semester. It also showed how your grades would impact your transcript. Needless to say, it was a stressful time for a lot of people.

Adriana, on the other hand, was expecting to get a solid 4.5 as her Grade Point Average. When they hand her her sheet she looks. 3.8. In her family that is a "don't come home tonight" kind of GPA. Whereas in most families that is a "honey, I'm so so proud of you!" So of course she sighs in frustration and feels her heartrate severely increase. Her palms started to moisten and she feels beads of sweat forming on her forehead.

"Adriana what did you get?" Wilder asks the girl.

"Bet she got a friggin 5." Austin says

"3.8." I mumble.

"Adriana Dill Deluca!" Chloe exclaims snatching the paper out of her hands. "How the fuck did you get a 3.8?"

"I don't know!" Adriana says throwing her arms up in surrender.

"You're like the perfect student." Wilder says

"This can't be right." Adriana says, taking her report back and getting up from her seat as she walks down to the principal's office and knocks on the door.

"Oh Adriana! Come in, come in. Have a seat." He says happy to see her as always. Adriana takes a seat in front of his desk "So what's up?" He asks

"Uh I was wondering about my GPA, I just got my progress report. And I was wondering how I got a 3.8" she asks

"A  3.8?" He asks, surprised himself. "Here I'll check it out." He says, he begins typing quickly on his computer, pulling up her transcript. "Honestly, I don't know what you're worried about Adriana. a 3.8 is not bad at all. I'm sure you'll still get into many respectable schools." He says as he waits for the computer to load

"I want to go to Stanford," She says. "And there are thousands of applicants who have an even higher GPA's."

"Ok, let me see." He says, scrolling through the transcript. "Oh here it is, your freshmen year it seems like you got a B in chemistry and another B in art. Those seem to be the credits that brought you down."

"Is there any way I can fix that?" She asks

"Definitely, but you must retake those classes and your most recent grade will replace the previous," He said. Shit. I hate art. I thought. "That would bring you up to around 4.0." He said. "If you really want to get a 4.5 or higher you will have to make straight A's this semester and next. But I feel with your number of extracurriculars and letters of recommendation Stanford will be impressed either way."

"With all due respect Mr. Smith Stanford just lowered their acceptance rate, and I don't intend to go anywhere else."

"Alright, well you already have four varsity sports, four club presidencies, and are student body president. Stanford might want to look for candidates who also do philanthropy or even tutor other students."

"Tutoring, Do you mean for the younger classes?" Adriana asks

"Perhaps, maybe even students in your grade." He suggests

"So like in math?"

"Math would be an excellent choice for you! You're currently the only student that I know of that has taken every math course our establishment has to offer ." He says. "I can talk to the head of the math department, Mr. Lawhead and we can see if he has any students who need extra help."
