Okay so to be clear Rosella is "the maid" the one who cursed Kale, don't be confused :D

Chapter Ten

Darkness crept into the forest, and it wasn't the night that brought it. Rosella smiled as she walked deeper and deeper into its depths. She had won today, maybe not like she wanted, but it was a victory nonetheless. Soon the little blonde brat would be gone and Kale would be miserable once more.

She finally came to a stand in the heart of the forest. Sitting down on a log she studied her surroundings. Soon she would be back to her evil doings though she might just stay a while longer to rub his pain in his face.

When she had first felt that little twinge, she didn't know what it was, but as it grew she knew. Her spell was being broken; slowly love was taking over her old loves life. When she had gotten here and saw what was happening she was outraged. They had all but forgotten her, even now he doesn't even know that it was Rosella that was doing this to them. But, of course, all her attempts to get rid of the darling princess had been thwarted by Kale.

Frustrated she got up and walked. She didn't really plan to go anywhere specific, she just needed to move. She had been gone for years and she had been happy. Now, being back here only made her..."URG!" she couldn't even bring herself to think it. Kale made her so mad, and yet all her feelings for him returned to the surface. When she had cursed him she thought she had freed herself, but, of course, magic couldn't solve all your problems.

She would have to do something to make her feel better; knowing that he wasn't going to marry the blonde princess didn't make her feel satisfied. She needed someone to pay, someone had to die!

Suddenly she heard voices and the forest seemed to come to life around her. What on earth. She moved in behind a tree as two people moved into her view.

Dauphine sighed as she walked. She had thought that coming into the forest would make her feel better, but it didn't. She did, however, feel safer than she had in the castle. She was away from everybody; she frowned turning to face Pete. Well, maybe not everyone. Pete had a big frown on his face. "Dauphine I don't think we should be in here."

Dauphine giggled. "Are you afraid, Pete? Don't worry, I'll protect you." Pete gave her a nasty look but didn't say anything. Rather he sat down, making himself comfortable on the floor. Dauphine joined him, sitting down right across from him.

"It's magnificent, isn't it? We don't have this in Sanko." Pete looked at his cousins happy face and he inwardly grimaced. He needed to tell her what Kale had said, he couldn't let that monster break her heart. "Dauphine, I need to tell you something."

Dauphine looked at him, her smile fading. "If this is about what happened to me at the beach, Pete, don't..."

Pete shook his head, interrupting her. "No, it's not about that. It's about something else, something that King Kale had told me, before all that other business."

Dauphine nodded but remained quiet, waiting for him to continue.

"It's just, he said, he told me..." this was harder than he had thought it would be.

Behind the tree, Rosella listened carefully, somewhere in the forest she felt him. She felt the Wolf. He was a part of her just as he was a part of Kale. She smiled a wicked plan forming as she used her magic to summon the beast to her.

Dauphine couldn't stand this, she stood. "Just say it, Pete!" Pete also stood, looking down at the ground as he spoke. "Kale does not want to marry you!"

She frowned, tears threatening to break through. "How dare you! What is this, your weak attempt to keep me within the walls of Sanko? Do you think that by telling me this, you're going to get me to walk away from him?" She started back towards the castle. "Why don't you just leave, Pete and stop making a fool of yourself? You aren't royal or even noble and you'll never be!" she turned to face him, but instead saw something else behind him. It was the creature she had seen the first night she was in the forest. "Pete, walk towards me very slowly. Don't look behind you."

Pete frowned; he didn't understand but still did what she said. The instant he took one step, he heard a growl and unable to help himself he turned around. "PETE!" Dauphine yelled moving forward to grab him. At the same time the creature attacked, throwing Pete down tearing at him. Dauphine screamed, making the creature stop. It lifted its head and Dauphine saw what it was, a wolf. Not a normal one, oh no, it was bigger, much bigger than the wolves that lived near Sanko.

It looked at her, moving away from Pete. She didn't spare a moment; she turned and ran, knowing it was going to follow. She didn't have to look behind her to know, she heard it, its growls gave it away. The wolf was following her now, chasing her.

She ran, pushing herself to move faster and faster, she didn't know how she could be faster than it was, but she was thankful as she saw the castle lights come into view. But then she remembered Pete, she couldn't just leave him to die alone in the forest. She stopped, turning to face the wolf. She stared at it; it was just standing there, staring at her. She frowned as she heard it give a low howl. It sounded like it was in pain. But it was short-lived as it pounced. She screamed throwing her hands into the air. She stood like that for a few seconds, her eyes closed as she waited for her doom.

The sound of the wolf whimpering made her lower her hands and open her eyes. She gasped; the wolf was lying in front of her, struggling to get out of the grip of roots. Dauphine looked around her, did she do this? Did she make the tree's roots capture the wolf?

One of the roots broke, pulling Dauphine out of her thoughts. Whatever happened she was grateful. She ran around the wolf back into the forest for Pete. He was lying exactly where she had left him. "Pete!" she bent down, throwing his arm around her shoulder she tried to slowly pick him up. He screamed, suddenly becoming aware of what was happening. "You...came...back?"

He was weak and full of blood. Dauphine couldn't tell if his wound were serious or not. "Of course, we're still family. Come let's go quickly before it comes back."

As quickly as they could they ran through the forest, nearing the clearing that linked the forest to the castle, Dauphine slowed their pace. The wolf was gone, tree roots lay scattered everywhere. She decided not to stop to see where it had gone; rather she just kept going until finally they reached the castle. "MOM! Alexis. Oh no, Pete stay with me!" he was giving in she could tell from the way he breathed. It was Eduar who came to her side, taking Pete from her. "No." Esme quickly followed pulling her away from the mess and taking her up the stairs. Dauphine burst out in tears, finally letting what just happened become real. "Pete! It's all my fault!" Esme started to sing a soothing tune as they went into the bathroom.

Downstairs, Kale burst into the castle. "Eduar!" he saw the blood, but nobody was anywhere to be found. He fell to the floor, "What have I done?"
