It was a cold winter evening and Steve was supposed to go and get his wisdom teeth out. The problem was that he didn't have anyone to drive him back home. He was able to drive himself there, but there was no way he could drive back to his house in the state the drugs would leave him in.

That's were Billy Hargrove came in. See, Steve had asked Hopper or Joyce to take him home and watch him, but they said they had work. He asked Nancy and Jonathan, but they had work. Robin said she would have, but she had some college testing she needed to do, but she offered to come by later and see how he was doing. He told the kids he wasn't sure what he would do and that's when Max said she'd get Billy to watch over him.

Now, Steve really wasn't sure how to feel about that. He didn't hate Billy, not at all. The problem was that he had a crush on the blue eyed blonde and it was killing him. But Billy was his only option, so Max called Billy in advance and told him that Steve needed him. They had some sibling banter and bribes before Billy agreed to help Steve out.

Cut to the day it was all happening and Steve was a nervous wreck. Billy was driving him there, along with Max, who said the others would stop by later on to see how he was holding up.
When they got inside, the group had to wait about ten minutes before Steve was taken back for the surgery. Max gave him a thumbs up and Billy just offered an encouraging smile.

Steve was set down onto a chair and the doctor put something over his mouth and nose. He told him to count to three and breathe in. Right when he got to one, he was out like a light and the doctors got to work.

Billy and Max were in the waiting room for about a half an hour talking to each other as they waited for Steve's surgery to be over.
"You think he'll be okay, right?" Max asked Billy as she sat there, tapping her foot, clearly worried for Steve.

"Calm down, Maxine. He's gonna be fine. They're just gonna drug him up and make him fall asleep, take out the stupid teeth, and then he'll be a little sore and loopy," Billy shrugged, clearly not as worried as his step-sister was.

Max nodded and the two talked for a little while before a young woman came up to them.
"Are you both here for Steven Harrington?" She asked politely, holding a small clipboard, wearing a pen in her hair.

"Yes! Yes we are!" Max was quick to reply, "is he okay?"
The nurse giggled and nodded. "He's fine. Just a little loopy from all the drugs we had to give him. You can come back and see him while we get everything ready for him to leave," the lady informed them. She then took them back to where Steve was.

When the two walked in, they saw Steve sitting in a chair, eyes closed with his head tilted back. The woman with the clipboard went over and gently tapped his shoulder. "Steve, sweetie. Your friends are here to see you," she smiled and they watched as Steve hummed in acknowledgement. "Can you open your eyes, for me?" She then asked.

They watched as Steve's eyes fluttered open and he looked around. "Woooah... what happened?" He slurred, slightly sitting up and looking around the small room. Billy couldn't help but snickered at Steve's reaction.

"You got your wisdom teeth out, Steve," the lady chuckled and then turned to Billy, "I'll go get the instructions, medicine, and more gauze while he gets used to being up. I'll be back soon." She then left the two step siblings along with Steve.

The drugged up teen looked at them with hazy eyes. "Heyyy guys! What're you doin here..?" Steve smiled, laughing slightly. Max smiled and went over to his side. "Me and Billy are going to take care of you until you feel better," she told him.
"But I feel greaaat! I don't need no babysitters," he laughed, reaching up and poking Max's nose, "Boop!"

Billy rolled his eyes as Max laughed and looked at him. Steve seemed so out of it and Billy watched as Steve started playing around other Max's hair. The drugs must have really done a number on him.
