I am a Filipino romance author.
I often find it relatively easy to come up with love stories, how two people meet, how they fall in love, and how they overcome whatever challenges they face, together. It's one of the best feelings ever, to put THE END at the bottom of a manuscript, knowing I've written another Happy Ever After.
Sadly, it has not come easy as of late.
Amidst the pandemic affecting many countries all over the world, my country is facing another threat – losing our right to express ourselves freely without fear of being red-tagged, harassed, or arrested.
Today, the 12th of June 2020, we celebrate the 122nd year of Philippine independence, and many people are celebrating by taking to the streets and protesting the Anti-Terrorism Bill. This, along with educating myself and making noise on social media, is my way of protesting.
I salute everyone who will be making their voices heard today and every day.
