"Breaking news tonight as a 14 year old girl named Kasity Green took her life earlier this evening. Kasity went to Little Lobster High..."
I am shocked when I hear my daughter's school mentioned. So I pay attention. I don't recognize the little girl but I do recognize the struggle. The fighting...the courage..
"Two fellow students, 14 and 15 year old Gracie and Kendall Gray, were arrested for aiding Kasity with resources. Now to Shelia who is...."
I'm speechless. They show pictures of her and the other two kids.
"Hey mom I'm home." My daughter Abby walks through the door as I quickly put my jacket back on. I've been able to hide them since she was a little kid. I don't think she's ready to know yet.
"Hey sweetie. How was school?" I pretend to clean up the kitchen as she drops her bag to take off her Docs.
"It was ok. Did you hear what happened to Kasity?" She says taking one shoe off and looking up at the ceiling.
"Yeah I did. Were you two friends?
"Yeah we were" She takes off her other shoe and grabs her bag. She turns toward the hallway. I turn to the fridge and am about to tell her I'm sorry when I hear her door close.
"Nevermind..."
𝚃𝚠𝚘 𝚑𝚘𝚞𝚛𝚜 𝚕𝚊𝚝𝚎𝚛...
"Honey you hungry? I knock on her door.
"No, I'm a good mom, thanks." That's the first time I've heard from her all night.
"Ok. Goodnight Honey. I'll see you in the morning?"
"I don't know if you will. The girls and I are going to breakfast before school."
"Oh ok. Well I'll see you after school."
"Probably not. I'm going out with Eric after school."
"Oh umm. When will you be back?"
"Mommm I'm staying the night with Jessie remember?"
"That's right. Well I guess I'll see you sometime tomorrow."
"Okay goodnight mom"
"Goodnight honey."

She climbs into bed and turns off the light. Trying to sleep, fighting against the pain in her stomach. She rolls over onto her back and starts at the ceiling, humming Gym Class. She gets up and grabs her phone, turning on the song and raping along with it. Slowly she falls asleep.
