It felt like the roughest week of Guinevere's life.
Bags shadowed under the green eyes that were red from the lack of sleep. Her hair which was usually curled to perfection was hastily thrown into a messy bun, auburn hair falling in places that irritated her to no end. And don't let her get started on her breath.
Oh God her breath! It smelled like a coffee grinder up in there.
For the past few days, this was Guinevere's state. Could you blame her? To be the best of the best in the academy, you have to put on some work to get there.
Her stomach grumbled loudly, begging and pleading for some real food. If her abdomen could speak, it would be weeping at her feet to be fed with some real food. Lately, her diet consisted mainly of coffee and whatever was available in the cafe. Guinevere was affirmative that she had tasted the cafe's entire menu at this point.
Typing furiously in her laptop, she muttered each word she was about to type, like some old lady. Her back was hunched over the screen as she pushed her glasses up from time to time, preventing them to fall of her nose.
"Magic is influencing the course of events through the use of supernatural or mystic forces...." Guinevere's mumbles were accompanied by the soft clicks of the keyboard keys along with her occasional sip from her large cup of coffee.
Suddenly, her laptop dimmed, yet a blaring warning flashed in front of her work.
"Battery Low: 5%"
"Eh?" Guinevere scratched her head. "Low power mode!"
She overlooked the fact that her laptop was already in low power mode. When she realized this, her back immediately straightened and rummaged through her painted tote bag for her charger.
"Yes!" Guinevere grabbed the snaking cord and instinctively plugged it into the wall, assuming that her seat had a wall outlet. She felt a brief moment of relief.
Unfortunately, the prongs of her charger collided into something solid. Definitely not a wall outlet. Guinevere broker her eyes away from the laptop and looked at her charger.
"What? No charging port!" Guinevere yelled inside her head. Internally panicking, she looked around to see if any seats had an unoccupied charging port.
At this hour, the cafe was packed with students from the magic academy and even faculty. The seats were occupied, so is all the charging ports. Guinevere was close to giving up until she saw one available port.
"Yes!" Guinevere cheered. But looking closely, the table next to it was occupied, with a grim looking guy sipping on his–probably black, triple espresso, no sugar–cup of coffee. "Oh no."
"But I really need that charging port." Guinevere reasoned.
"Would you be able to work peacefully sitting across that scary man?" Guinevere argued back to herself.
"I can fight him! I'm the top student in the academy!" Guinevere yelled back to herself.
"Uh...he doesn't look like he's from the academy."
"Whatever!" Guinevere hissed harshly to silence her obnoxious thoughts. Several people whipped their head towards her with a weird look in their faces. "Sorry!"
She sheepishly rubbed the nape of her neck and finally decided to grab all her stuff and hastily placed them in her tote bag. Clutching her laptop in her arm and her cup of caramel macchiato on the other, she walked towards the table with the free outlet.
The guy at the said table was looking outside into the rain, and he looked peaceful despite of his terrifying gaze. Guinevere swallowed the lump on her throat and braced herself.
