***LISA 2020***
"What's with the face?"
Jisoo asked as she lay the paper coaster on the bar nook and topped it with the glass of vodka tonic in front of me. I didn't ask for it, but since I'm a regular and her best friend at the same time, she already knows what kind of alcohol I'm drinking every time I visit her PUB.
She works behind the counter, mixing different kinds of alcohols to people whom I don't know if just bored with their life like me or lonely or heartbroken. Who knows? All I know is I come here every Wednesday to visit her and support her with her business, regardless if I'm busy or tired because that's what our promise to each other—support one another with whatever dream we have.
I'm sitting in my usual spot at the left far end side of the bar. Away from anyone's eyes, and away from anyone who'll dare to offer a small talk. I'm not good at it, so as much as possible, I avoid those kinds of scenes.
I shrugged before I answered her question because honestly, I don't know why I'm sulking today. Maybe I'm not just in the mood for anything. Well, if it's not Wednesday today, I might be home burying myself on my bed while listening to old songs because I always believe I'm an old soul.
"I don't know. Might be the workload. Kind of piling up... you know."
She cringed her nose and hunched to rest her forearms on the counter, so she could lean closer to me.
"That's why I don't like nine-to-six job. It's eating up my time like I don't have a choice but to drag myself out of my apartment's door."
I sighed heavily because we both know that I don't have a choice. I'm not as rich as she is who can own a bar or any business she likes. I'm just a normal citizen of this country who just made her way to the corporate world as a software engineer.
I'm not saying I don't like my job, I love it. It's just, I find my life boring in general.
"Well..."
I stirred the ice in my glass before I took a sip.
"Guess that's the only choice I have... drag myself out of my apartment's door."
She snorted, which made me lift my head to shift my gaze from the ice in my vodka to her. She's still hunching with her forearms on the counter and looking straight to my eyes.
I sighed audibly, though I know she'll never hear it because this place is drowning in music.
"You just need a date."
I rolled my eyes. I knew it's the next words that will come out from her mouth since this scene always happens every Wednesday. Me, sitting in this usual spot, and her, reminding me that having a date is a very important thing. That it will solve every problem in this world.
But I'm not into dating. Well, not really not into it. It's just I have seen no one interesting yet, since the last time I got involved with someone.
It's not that I'm not over it yet, it's just... fine... maybe I'm not over it yet.
"It's been seven years... you know."
I pressed my lips before I said something again.
"You have new customers. Why don't you spend your precious time attending to them than wasting your time lecturing me here?"
She shook her head in disdain.
I'm sure she doesn't like me dismissing her sooner, but there's nothing more to say. And... I'd rather spend my time alone sipping this vodka in front of me than answering her every word.
