her gown

You wore this dress on one of the best days of your life.
It was your shower;
you were young,
You were in love,
and without me to worry about.
I'm sure, my blood,
I'm not the one you expected to hand the dress down to.
Not the blood you hoped for,
Not the clone you wanted to create.
Not the mirror image you wanted me to be.
The straps hanging off my shoulders,
Because I'm not grown.
I'm not grown enough to fit in this gown
Gown of expectations you have for me.
Because that isn't who I am.
I'm not who you think I am
I'm not who I think I am,
Who I want to be.
I'm sorry to disappoint you,
But the dress doesn't fit.
