My brows furrowed as he said this and I almost didn't hear his words.
"What do you mean? So how did Rob get away with taking over Chris's mind?"
Emerson looked over to his brother before looking back at me letting out a sigh.
"I guess there's no harm in telling you. It's too late now. Do you remember the song that Hyde and Kaz play at the show?"
I nodded remembering how entrancing the song was when I first heard it. But something felt off about paying attention to it. My mind was all over the place at the moment.
"Well, Hyde has this power where his voice can hypnotize those who let their guards down and let his song into their minds. Kinda like a siren. Chris just so happened to be one of the many people that were entranced."
I let out a soft gasp. Chris...he's not usually the type to let his guard down so easily. He had been so stressed I had assumed he had his mind everywhere but I guess he just shut down for a moment. Did the same happen to Remington? No that's impossible, his mind is always scattered around.
"What about Rem? There's no way he let his guard down. That dude never sits still for more than 5 seconds." I tried to stand up but the chain was too short so I fell back on my ass.
"Trust me, we know. Like I said, it's nothing against you. Hyde made us lure Rem back to our camp and had him listen to it while he slept. We honestly didn't know until the next day." Emerson continued.
I was speechless at this point, I didn't know what to say anymore. I had so many questions running through my mind I couldn't even find the right words to express my emotions. Chris was dead, Remington was brainwashed, and Hyde was willing to go to any limits to get what he wants. He doesn't care who gets in his way or who he hurts. He was completely power hungry.
"Why are you telling me this? You work for Hyde. Did he set you two up to trick me?" My tail flicked about as I eyed the brothers.
"Like I said, it's too late now. So there's no harm in telling you all of this."
"What do you mean too late?"
"This world is already going to Hell. And there's nothing you can do about it kitten!"
I lifted my head up when I heard the familiar voice of Remington. He stepped forward walking past his brothers so now he was standing in front of me. Rem was holding a wooden baseball bat over his shoulder, a wicked smile dancing across his red painted lips. In all of my years of knowing him, I've never seen him look like this. He looked so different. Insane, and not in the good way. He was like a real life Harley Quinn. Even when he was evil with Kuza he never looked this disturbing.
"Rem, what are you doing here?" Sebastian stood to his feet to face the smaller man in front of him.
Remington just chuckled lightly before holding his bat out towards my face, pointing at me.
"I just came to clean up the mess, but looks like you two got here before I could. Hyde's going to love this. Traitors."
Before anyone could say anything, Remington pulled his bat back and swung it towards Sebastian who was quick to dodge the hit. Emerson stepped in between the two before Sebastian could charge at the smaller male who was just smiling widely. Rem's eyes went red as he swung his bat back over his shoulder, not taking his eyes off of his brothers.
"Rem, we're sorry we left you, and let Hyde do this to you. But you've got to snap out of it! We're not the enemy."
Remington's smile disappeared from his face and was replaced with a scowl. He took another swing with his bat with a shout but this time he managed to hit Sebastian in the chest, sending the taller man to the ground. Emerson gasped and quickly rushed over to check on his brother while Rem took the opportunity to walk over to me. He chuckled deeply in his throat, using the end of his bat to lift my face up by the chin.
"As for you cat, you better sit there like a good pet and wait for your friends to show up. And by the sounds of it, they're already close by." Rem lifted his head up before backing away from me and turning into a bat. Still holding his bat in his little feet, he flew away disappearing into the night sky.
My heart was racing, my chest moving up and down as I tried to catch my breath. My friends...they're on their way. I can't let them get to me, I know Hyde has some kind of trap set up. Remington was probably just a diversion. My eyes moved over to where Sebastian lay, holding his head with his hands as he hissed in pain. Emerson helped the taller man to his feet making sure he was okay.
"You need to make sure my friends don't come here. Please. I don't want them to fall for this trap!"
"It's too late, I can hear them coming." Sebastian rubbed the side of his head hissing in pain as he looked behind him.
He and Emerson quickly changed into their bat forms and began to fly off, but not before Em looked back at me.
"We'll hold them off as long as we can!" With that the two flew off in the direction of the woods that surrounded the building.
I hung my head low, dropping to my knees as I held my face.
"Chris...what do I do?" I whispered to myself feeling a tear running down my face.
"Let me help you Rick."
