We Have Each Other

Chapter 4

June stood there speechless. She blinked several times to make sure she wasn't seeing things. No, she wasn't hallucinating. Right there behind the big glass window was a girl kissing Jughead. Kissing her father!!!

"What the hell?!?" June said quickly turning around.

June picked up her sister and practically sprinted to the car. She buckled Addy in then sat in her own seat. She felt tears of anger and sadness forming in her eyes. What was her dad doing with that woman? What is mom going to say? Are they going to get a divorced? Dad always told me that he'd always love mom. Was this all a misunderstanding? She quickly wiped her tears away. She couldn't let her sister see her cry. No. She had to stay strong no matter what happened.

"What's wrong June? Where's mommy?" Addy asked. June could hear the worry in her voice.

"She'll be back soon Addy. Just wait patiently and play with your dolls." June said shakily trying not to break down.

Soon enough Betty came back to the car, red faced. She had definitely been crying. Betty looked at June then started the car and drove home. When they got home, Betty sent Addy up to play in her room. She sat down at the table. She was holding her tears back to keep June from seeing her cry.

"Mom... what's going to happen?" June asked in a shaky voice, her emotions about to give loose at any given second.

"I don't know June... your father is coming to pack his stuff up later. He's moving out. Betty said with no emotion to her voice.

June nodded. So many thoughts were flying through her head, when she suddenly blurted out...

"Why the hell would he do that mom?!? I thought he loved you? I thought he loved us?" June shouted

"June honey..." Betty took June's hand and held it tight. "It's going to be ok. I don't know why he did it either. It took me by surprise, but we'll get through this."

"HOW WILL WE GET THROUGH THIS? DAD ALWAYS SAID YOU TWO WOULD NEVER SPLIT UP! HE SAID HE WOULD ALWAYS LOVE YOU!"

June stood up. All her sadness has suddenly turned to anger.. hatred. Hatred toured that woman who was with her dad. She suddenly felt better after yelling. She sat back down and looked at her mom.

"Who was she?" June asked calmly

"Toni... Toni Topaz. A girl we used to go to school with. She was part of your dad's gang... The Serpents." Betty said stiffly

"Dad had a gang?!?"

June was shocked. Beyond shocked. She knew her dad hadn't had the best childhood. His sister and mom moved away. His dad was an alcoholic, but a gang?!? Everyone always said what a good guy her father was! He didn't seem like a gang leader.

"Yes. Yes he was. Serpent King..." Betty said reminiscing of her High School years.

"Can we stop talking about him..." June bit her lip and turned away.

Betty nodded then stood up and walked over to June. She wrapped her arms around her, giving her a hug. Betty walked to the living room and sat down, thinking about the events of that day.

June went up to her room and laid across her bed. She felt weird. Like it was all a dream and she would wake up tomorrow and it would all be over. Her dad would be home, Toni would be a distant memory, and this would all be over.
