Lore:
during the bubonic plague there was a group of four thieves. they were not afraid of the plague, unlike others. they would break into any house they found many of the sick, dead, or dying. in the version of the story were they weren't caught, they used this concoction to keep away the plague. in the version were they were caught, their punishment was burying plague victims. that formed their reason for making this vinegar. the last version they traded this recipe with the judge so they wouldn't go to prison for their crimes.
