Time: A thousand years from now.
I surfed the internet for information. The news was all over the place. I couldn't believe it. There had to be a cure, right?
But no, the universe was against us. There was no stopping this. It was final, life was going to end. And not mine. If it was mine alone, millions of scientists wouldn't be looking for a cure.
Oh no, I wish that was the case. But Life with a capital L, that life was going to end. The whole civilisation would be gone.
Astronomers looked for the cure. Scientists looked for the cure. Even brilliant nerdy college kids were looking for a way. But most had accepted defeat. This was the end. There was no going back.
Everybody was home from school and work. Everybody was following newfound dreams in the short time. The year had become smaller. Months were 5 instead of 12. Days were 155 instead of 365.
Time was short and money was high. Nobody cared about money. Time was everything. Not only Money. Every businessman was on break. Every government was ruined. Every terrorist was on leave.
There was peace and serenity everywhere. Every nation, every continent and every single soul was on verge of destruction. There was no way around, no loophole.
There was no ray of hope. That was long gone. Everybody would enjoy there last moments. Everybody would live life to the fullest. Even poverty was wiped out.
It was a different world altogether. The end brought everybody closer. Everybody United.
Life was coming to an end. Not only human life, but animal and plant life too. There was no new awakening. No new dawn. It was just eternal sleep. Stillness lasting forever.
Every child's future was ruined. There were no opportunities. Every aspiring artist's work was in vain. Every accomplished dream meant nothing. Everything would be gone.
As the famous scientists quoted on the net, "Every little bit would be gone in a jiffy. No body would live. It would be instant and painless. Death would be instant and painless"
Some cried rivers, others told them to suck it up. Some locked themselves in rooms to avoid the unavoidable, others lived in the wide open. Some were weak, others were brave. Some had cowardice, others courage.
That was news. This was the present. The past was lucky, the future wasn't there. I made my decision. It was time to live. Not forever, that wasn't possible. But to be there. To feel everything. To cherish every little moment. To love and to hate. To smile and to cry. To be human.
We had a month. That was all we knew now. I don't know about others, but I will make it count.
This was no epidemic. This was no disaster. No, it was irreplaceable. It was unrecoverable. It was the worst.
It was a black hole. The sun was dying. So were we. It would absorb every planet and every moon. It would suck in every rock and all the light. It would take in the earth. And we would hitch the hated ride.
It was impossible to study. It took in everything. Our source of life was dying, taking us with it.
It had been accepted by the masses. The exact time would be found. The time of our extinction. The religious prayed to God for help. The selfless said, "Take us, and let the rest prevail" Those who knew the end prayed, "Let a new life be begun after we leave. A new big bang. The New Age. And let history be repeated"
All this was vain, we all knew it. Whatever was going to happen, would happen. Even if there was a New Age, we wouldn't be a part of it.
I left my room and went into the garden. This was the only time I had. We were given precious time to appreciate the beauty of everything. I wondered if we hadn't been warned. If we didn't know of this event. We would be caught up in daily busy lives. We would never realise the true meaning of survival. And we would not die peacefully. We would die in debt. Debt to nature.
But then I thought, what would be nature. The nature we know is trees and birds and hills and lakes. But those would be long gone. No, nature was the universe. It was fate in the great beyond. The beyond we would never know.
I was lost in thought, sitting on the park bench, when I saw a little girl giggling on the swings. Her mother gave her a sad smile. She knew her daughter's fate. That innocent child, barely knowing world's evil, would be gone in a month. Every inch wiped out.
I stood up and went to the girl. I played with her while her mother gave me a thankful smile. This young child should know happiness in her last moments. Even though we would try to be happy, thoughts shall linger in our mind. Thoughts of not existing ever again.
But this girl knew not a thing. And shouldn't even know. It was destined and it was best to leave it that way. Soon the day ended. Usually I am happy when it ends. I get a fresh start the next day. But this was counting down the days. Every day passed was every day lost. Never to be brought back.
I tried to remove those pessimistic thoughts and made my way for dinner. My Mom made sure to prepare special dishes everyday. My dad made sure to spend time with us. Play together and watch movies. Everybody tried there best. Best until DOOMSDAY.
