I was sitting in a business meeting along side Evans, which he invited me to, color coding the notes. He said it was a "learning experience I could benefit from". He wasn't wrong. I've just found a new love for business, and thinking about pursuing it but what would my mom think?
I shook the thought off my head and focused back on the meeting.
"You understand what's going on?" Evans whispered to me. "I know this is kinda new to you."
"For the most part, yes. But I'm not really sure what they mean by the infiltration."
"He's basically saying if we make too much of our production or what we're selling it loses it value. Mostly because anyone can get their hands on it."
"Oh thanks."
"If you have questions don't be scared to ask. I kinda have a speciality in this certain topic." He winked.
I playfully shoved him, then quickly going back to my notes so I don't miss anything.
The meeting ending about 3 hours later and I had almost 10 pages of notes. I walked back to my office to pack up and go home. It's been one hell of a day. And a nap sound exquisite right now.
I grabbed my coat and walked to my car, when I saw one of my co-workers sitting, practically freezing at the bus stop. It gave me flashbacks to back when I used to take the bus and even sometimes even walk in this ridiculous weather. So why not pay it forward?
"Hey Nina!" I said running across the street in heels. Yeah in heels.
"Sania? What are you doing over here?" She said genuinely confused.
"I came to ask if you needed a ride. It's really cold-"
"Thanks, but no thanks." She rudely interrupted. "I don't know what kind of charity case you think I am, but you're wrong."
Damn.
"I never said you were." I was just trying to be nice.
"Well I don't need a handout."
"Handout? I came over to offer you a ride because I know what it feels like to stand and let alone wait in conditions like this."
"Yeah I've taken the bus too", I said pulling out my bus card. "But if you'll excuse me."
"Wait-", she said stopping me.
I stared at her for a while before motioning to come to my car.
"This is nice", she complimented getting in.
I know, I thought to myself. But "thanks" came out.
I pulled out and typed her address into my gps.
After about 10 minutes into the ride she spoke up. "I'm sorry again for what I was saying. It looked like you were some privileged high class girl helping a low life, as myself." She couldn't even look me in the eyes, the embarrassment was radiating off of her.
"I understand what you're saying, I really do. But you have to learn how to judge people off of actions, not assumptions."
"I've been where you're at, but it gets better. Hard work gets you places." I said.
"You're right, and I apologize again. It wasn't my place."
"All is forgiven", I smiled.
We actually had a heart to heart conversation during the conversation. And she's a pretty cool person. I learned she has a degree in business and a single mother. I saw a couple pictures on of her 6 year old son, Marcus, who nonetheless was adorable.
We also agreed on me dropping her off from work from now on.
"Thanks again Sania! I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Of course! Say hi to Marcus for me."
On my way home I felt so good about myself. Just doing that one little thing brought such an indescribable wave of joy.
I arrived back at the house, singing the song I had just heard on the radio. Anti is such a good album, and Rihanna needs to drop a new one.
I opened the door, to be confronted by sobs and wails coming from the bathroom. I dropped my things and sprinted to the door.
Re'Anne was sitting on the floor hyperventilating as if she had seen a ghost.
"Re'Anne! What's wrong? Are you alright?"
I frantically questioned kneeling on the floor with her.
She shook her head, "no."
"No? What happened?" I said turning her face to look at me.
"This."
She handed me a pregnancy test, with 2 lines going across it.
"I'm pregnant."
