Prologue:The Fire

A man burst in through the door,"They are coming,hide the Mentisidol and the child.We don't have time hurry up ,quickly".

"Where?,I need a place where they can't come in or won't find her,somewhere hidden away from the world",a middle aged woman wearing a scientist coat walked up to a chair in which a sleeping child lay.She plugged out the IV attached to the little girl and carried her as fast as possible to the wheelchair that was kept there for moments like these.

The man looked at both the child and the woman as they were leaving the basement like room from the secret escape door,he called out,"Lauren stay safe and protect Natalie that is the most important thing,I love you do not ever forget that.Now go,run as fast as possible and do not by any means come back". He turned around towards the entrance and started running away from them so that he could protect the only people he had left,in his mind flashed his whole life from the moment he had met Lauren to the moment he had found Natalie dumped on the street to the fact that his experiment had succeeded and finally to the fact that he was going to die without fulfilling his life dreams and goals.He envied those who grew up in luxury and without struggle ,he really did but now he chose to protect his loved ones and die in their place because nothing mattered to him as long as they were safe.

Meanwhile Lauren thought about the love of her life ,she was tempted to sacrifice her and the child so that she could tell him one more time that she loved and adored him,strings pulled at her heart as she thought back to the moments they had shared together and then about the child sleeping in the back of the car .No ,no matter what happened she had to protect Natalie and this thought was more than enough to fuel her ambition to get away as soon as possible.

Just then the three year old Natalie opened her eyes and began crying for she was very hungry,when she noticed that they were in the car she stopped for a second an then continued crying. Lauren turned around and gave the child a bottle of water so that she would stop crying.The trees and tall city buildings of Sidney flew past the windows as Lauren hoped for the future.

A couple of hours later a body was found inside a burnt building who the police identified as Henry Monroe who had originally been living in Japan and before that South America,but that was the furthest piece of information they could find.It seemed that whoever this guy was he was no ordinary one because no one could even find out where he was born they all tried but so far it was impossible.

Lauren smiled at the little girl who was now eating baby food from the box with a plastic spoon,she wondered what had happened to Henry.Did he survive?Did he escape in time?Will she be able to see him again or will her life fall into a wreck all over again?

A couple of hours later

A car sped past Lauren's car ,it had was the car that had been following them for over 7 hours now. Lauren took no notice of it and continued driving.when she looked in the review mirror and realized that this was the car which had been behind them since they left the homemade science lab,she knew that losing him would not be a piece of cake so she decided to trick him into thinking that the car had broke down meanwhile she would prepare for the tonight thinking things through.She knew that the cars would not stop on the highway for such a trivial matter.She would then make him believe that she had stopped at a motel  and then she would sneak out a night while he went to eat.

When she arrived at the motel she went to the receptionist and told her,"Hi ,I am being followed  by a man ,will you please let me stay for a couple of hours for free please I do not have money but I have this pearl necklace if you want".

The old receptionist examined the woman and the little child,tears were pouring out of the woman's eyes and the child was looking around lost in her own little bubble.She suddenly knew that they had been through a lot and decided to help them,"Oh dear,you are more than welcome to stay.You can even stay with me afterwards,the man will probably think that you have skipped town and will search for you not expecting you to stay here.And keep the necklace,every girl needs her accessories with her". 

"Thank you so much",tears of gratitude fell down her cheeks as she gripped the child close to her.

The woman smiled kindly and said",My name is Mendora Hunter and you are"?

"I am Lauren and this is Natalie,she is three years old and I am 24 .",Lauren smiled at her feeling relieved.

"Is she your daughter ",the old woman asked.

"No"Lauren replied ",me and my lover found her on the streets".

"Where is he,it is fine if you do not want to tell me".

"I don't know now, he sacrificed himself for us". Lauren was now crying.

"Sorry,I shouldn't have asked".

"It's fine,I don't mind".

"Still I shouldn't have".

"Don't worry,can you take Natalie and play with her while I go to buy some diapers and food for her", Lauren sighed.

"Honey take some money from me didn't you say you don't have",the old women smiled a warm smile to the 24 year old woman and took the child from her arms. Natalie squealed in happiness instantly trusting Mendora who chuckled at the child's reaction.

Lauren soon left knowing that little Natalie was in good hands .Lauren was not actually going to buy groceries and that is why she had greeted Natalie as if this was their last time seeing each other and for the first time in a long time she was prepared for death to protect her child,they may not be related by blood but she was ready to sacrifice her own life for Natalie.Lauren had a plan :ONE-divert their attention from the motel and TWO-burn the car and herself to protect the secret of the dangerous Mentisidol and most importantly Natalie's secret.

Tom and Bethany drove the car on the dimly lit isolated road holding hands ready for a rather naughty night at a motel .After driving for a couple of minutes later they were greeted by a burnt car that seemed to have a limp body hanging out of the door,they could barely make out the shape of the body and whether it was a male or a female.Bethany ran out of the car screaming and shouting at her boyfriend to call the police and the ambulance,the police arrived at the scene 10 minutes after the they had received the call but the body was unrecognisable,not a print or substance was found that could identify the body but the police had confirmed the body dead before the accident and fire.

Mendora glanced at the clock and thought about the day's events and how adorable was the little girl who was sleeping in the next room.She somehow knew that Lauren had sacrificed herself for the sake of the child,she had seen the look of determination in the woman's eyes and the look of guilt when she mentioned her lover as if she was scared that the same thing would happen to Natalie as well as how she greeted Natalie with a sad look and hugging her as if her life depended on it.She also knew that it was her responsibility to look after Natalie and she would tell her the truth about her family,she will not lie to Natalie even if someone placed a knife at her throat demanding her to lie .Lauren had trusted her and she was not going to let her down in any way possible.

With that life continued for everyone no one remembering the hero souls who had sacrificed themselves for the world without expecting even an ounce of gratitude.These souls would not be remembered as heroes but as nobodies who were now laying seven feet underground,all alone and cold thinking of each other. Not a very nice way to leave the world if you ask me but the question was can we really question and challenge reality till it gives up all hope of existing.
