Kid POV
-------------------------
:What the hell? She. She kissed me!:
I was frozen still as she ran down the stairs. I decided I should say something. I turned around to run after her.
"(Y/n) Wait!"
I bolted, but to no avail. I could not find her. I regretfully turn back towards the school to go meet up with my father like we did every free Saturday morning now that the kin-shin was out of the way.
"Yo! Yo!
Hiya Kiddo!"
My father chirped as I stepped in the death room. My feet were dragging slightly, my head drooped as my arm limply lifted in a pathetic attempt at a wave.
"You look so sad,
Tell me son what troubles you've had."
He asked. Dad was intentionally rhyming... Oi! I didn't reply. Instead I sat on the floor on my knees.
"Son? Answer your father.
What to your mind, is such a bother?"
I again didn't reply. What my father did next shocked me. His clowny voice was replaced by a low and serious one, his words now toned with sincere concern and fatherly care.
"Kid? What's wrong?"
I looked up. Slightly surprised that dad had taken off his mask. His eyes met my gaze for a while.
"It's a girl isn't it?"
He said empathetically. I desperately tried to speak
"I- she- um- and I-"
I couldn't piece a sentence together.
Father looked at me. Sympathy shaping his features. He took off his large gloves and walked closer to me.
He knelt to my level and wrapped his arms around me.
"You're confused. She kissed you didn't she? And you don't know why?"
He muttered. It was unusual for him to drop his voice act. Let alone remove the death suit. Him sympathizing with me on a personal level. This had never happened, but I felt safe. He was my beloved father. I hugged him back.
"How did you-?"
I begin to ask. He cuts me short.
"Because it happened to me."
"Was it my mother?"
"Yes. I miss her."
His voice cracked on his last sentence. I knew that the subject of mother was hard for my dad so I tightened my hug slightly. He held me close to him, I soon felt my shoulder become damp.
Dad whimpered slightly.
"Father... It's okay. I miss her too."
A flashback comes to mind and I also begin to cry.
We stayed there sharing a sympathetic embrace for a long time, just crying. Every once in a while sharing a short memory before breaking into tears once more.
"She would always smile. Even after what had happened. Don't you remember Kid?"
"Yes."
"She would want us to smile. You know?"
He said his voice gaining a slightly happier undertone. I nod into his shoulder and we both pull away and stand up. Father wiped his eyes. And regained a cheery tone, but kept out of his cartoonish voice he normally used.
"Come on. Let's go do something fun and smile."
"Okay father."
I reply wiping my tears as I composed my self. Dad went to his gloves and mask, putting them back on. His cartoonish voice now back.
"Lazer tag~?"
"You're on dad!"
He raised a fist and I met it with mine before we rushed out of the academy to Lazer Tag.
