Ah, right, Sam was clueless about everything social media.
nucLEOnic: like this chat, but with more ppl. They're my best friends. Think you'd get along with em.
A whole group of humans in one chat?
Was he insane for thinking he wanted to do it? Or was Sam just an optimist looking for a way out of his dull life of solitude.
The past month had gone by swimmingly, and Sam found pleasure in talking with Leo everyday after 'school hours'. While he was not entirely honest about who he was, there were tidbits here and there that he could share about himself when the situation called for it. For example, Sam was a proclaimed recycler dedicated to reusing anything he could to help the environment. And while the idea of keeping the Earth clean was not necessarily true, the premise of 'borrowing' something to fit his needs allowed a little wiggle room to adapt into a conversation. Sam might have stretched the truth, but he told himself it was for the best, and after a month of lying, he started to believe it.
MyNameIsSam: depends. R they as cool as u
nucLEOnic: I'm flattered rn. Literally blushing.
Sam giggled to himself in the pitch black.
nucLEOnic: ya theyre cool. Like I said they r my best friends so it kinda comes with the job description. U can't be friends w me unless ur cool.
MyNameIsSam: does that mean we're friends? Bc I am as cool as a single person can get.
nucLEOnic: u keep telling urself that lol
MyNameIsSam: ok I'll join

If it were at all possible to hear the noises Sam made out of excitement, Leo might have grown concerned at the sound of squealing inside his walls. As it was, Sam's lungs were too small to carry out a scream as far as two feet, and so it remained quiet within the teenager's bedroom.
Sam, however, was also on the verge of freaking out to the point of pacing. How would he act in the chat? Would they like him? Would he be able to make three whole friends, or was that asking too much? It was risky enough being friends with one human, no matter if he knew of his existence or not, but three was another story entirely. Say they did find out, and Sam was left to the mercy of a group of curious boys that didn't know a single pinch on his leg could damage it permanently. It would be a relief if he didn't end up the same as his parents, dead in the corner to be swept away like their whole lives meant nothing in the grand scheme of things. If he made one slip up, it could put an end to his entire species, resulting in pain and suffering like nothing he had ever seen before-
A notification blocked any more intrusive thoughts from invading Sam's mind.
Skipperrr: what's up man

nucLEOnic: leave him alone urs isnt much better

Sam watched in awe at how easy it was to respond to the messages. This was what it was like to have a conversation with people. With friends. And while he couldn't quite call them his closest friends yet, Sam had a feeling that this group chat of like-minded individuals would get along for the days to come.
