MyNameIsSam: jeep sounds cool. I can't say I'm an expert on the subject of cars though . I like walking.

Which was not, technically, a lie.

NucLEOnic: oh man, same. Especially walks thru a forest or sum. Big fan of nature here haha.

MyNameIsSam: what do u like about nature?

nucLEOnic: don't even get me started...

Sam wanted him to get started. And so he did, for the rest of the night and deep into the early hours of the morning, Leo described the beauty of taking a stroll through the forest or watching a deer and knowing it had a family just like you. Sam soon came to learn that Leo had a connection to nature in a way he had never been able to experience from his days wasting away within the walls of a teenage boy's bedroom. Sam longed to hear more, and before he knew it, the two boys grew to a conversation of just about anything that came to mind. It seemed neither of them wanted to put the phone down and go to sleep.

MyNameIsSam: holy crap. Almost 2 AM.

MyNameIsSam: keep going tho! What's ur favorite part about meeting new animals in the forest?

Leo, for the most part, resolved any issues in his mind about Sam being some weird old man looking for his next victim to kidnap via social media. It was a relief to be able to describe details he could never explain to Elijah and Skip without getting made fun of, so he ranted into dawn without a moment of hesitation about what to say next. The online conversation flowed as easily as silk in a riverbed, never stopping, never letting up to go to sleep. It wasn't until Sam mentioned the time that Leo grew worried and, in doing so, brought up the fact that he still had school in the coming hours. Which left only five hours of possible sleep. Leo was not ready for the conversation to end.

MyNameIsSam: go to bed. Seriously, it's not like I'm going anywhere. I'll be here after school tomorrow.

nucLEOnic: what time does your school let out?

MyNameIsSam: I don't go to school

nucLEOnic: homeschooled?

MyNameIsSam: something like that. Go tosleep. I'll talk to you again in the morning.

NucLEOnic: fine, u have to go to bed too. Gn Sam, it was nice meeting with u. Thanks for letting me rant lol.

MyNameIsSam: goodnight Leo, I'm happy we got to tlak .

And Sam was happy, ecstatic even, at the opportunity of being able to speak with the boy he wanted so desperately to become friends with. But while he curled up into his nest containing small pieces of fabric from years of 'borrowing', Sam felt a pit in his stomach at the very thought of continuing a conversation with Leo.

Leo didn't know what he was. Leo didn't know that Sam was a mere distance of two feet away, snug inside his walls. Leo didn't know that Sam lived with him for the past month, and would continue living there right beside him to bask in his accomplishments as if they were his own, and feed off the attention of parents like he would never be able to again. Leo didn't know that Sam was a leech to anyone that came into the house, and he wouldn't find out unless Sam decided that death would be a more agreeable outcome than loneliness.

The more Sam pondered over possible consequences, the more he felt an urge to leave the building and find another household to mooch off of until his days ended. That isn't to say that Sam thinks often about his death, but his life was more difficult than a human, and in being so, Sam was forced to reconsider a lifestyle most humans would never have to think about. He wondered if finding a new home would even be possible for someone of his size, especially taking into consideration the fact that he had never left the inside of his humble abode. Sure, he had a human friend (could Sam call Leo a friend now?), but that didn't not mean Leo wouldn't crush him like a bug the moment he found out about who he really was. And the thought of such a gentle, kindred soul looking down upon a mess of a thing like Sam, broke him inside every time the image flashed throughout his mind.

For now, though, Sam could push away that pit in his stomach, and revel in the glory of making friends for the first time in his life. He would have to learn how to speak online in a more appropriate fashion, but it couldn't be too hard considering he had been through much worse. There might be more issues to arise with this new opportunity, but the good outweighed any bad in the moment of a beginning friendship. There was excitement to be had in the eyes of Sam.

The nonhuman let his eyelids droop down in content, burrowing further into his nest of fabrics until he fell asleep to the soft snores outside the wall, and dreamed of a world where he was just as human as Leo was.

A/N: Sam is way too hopeful to be wishing to be human. The whole point of this story is that he isn't human LOL. Anyways, feel free to drop a comment and let me know your thoughts! Thank you for reading! :)
