His True Mate

The Palace

Stephen's POV 

The palace is full of excitement and everyone is running around preparing for the ball. There hasn't been a royal ball in almost ten years so many are beyond excited. I really could care less if this happens or not. My father the Alpha King is determined for me to find my true mate. His ideas on mating are that only a true mate is to be taken. He has even gone as far as making laws that are meant to protect the true mate pairings. I have always wanted my mate but things have changed over the last few months.

Three months ago I meet my girlfriend, a sweet and kind she-wolf who is sexy as hell. She was visiting the palace and we ran into each other. After laughing at each other we spent the next few hours getting to know each other. She told me how her true mate rejected her and she was struggling in her pack as the alpha's daughter bullied and abused her. I was furious and wanted nothing more than to go and teach the two mutts a lesson, but being the angel she is she talked me out of doing anything rash.

Our relationship progressed quickly after that and within the week we were dating and had mated. I was initially concerned about us mating since our mates could potentially feel it, but she was prepared and had gotten a potion from a witch that took care of that problem. I spent the next three months on cloud nine having the time of my life. I had decided that if my mate doesn't show for the ball or maybe even if she does I was possibly going to announce my girlfriend as my true mate. There is no way anyone could know the truth and I knew I could be happy with my girlfriend.

"Stephen! Man, I have been trying to get your attention for like ten minutes!" My best friend and beta Diego says. Diego is amazing at what he does and I can't believe how lucky I am to have him. He has been acting a little off for the past few months, but any time I bring it up he just changes the subject.

"Sorry I was just thinking about the ball. " Diego raises an eyebrow in confusion as I usually could care less about these things.

"Well I wanted to check and see if you wanted to ditch today and the ball and hang out, but I have a feeling you want to go now." His smirk is saying that he knows something is up. This guy knows me better than anyone and it kills me to know that I have been keeping secrets from him. I haven't told him about my relationship because I know he won't approve. He is a firm believer in mates and I really don't want him to think badly of me for doing this.

"Are you going to your alpha training? You know you've got to step up if you want to take over soon." I inwardly sigh knowing he's right. I have neglected my training and study for years. It's not that I don't care because I do. I want to be the best king I can, I just get distracted. It's even worse now that I have the constant urge to have sex.

"I actually have something important to do so I'm going to pass. I'll see you at the ball man." With that, I take my leave so that I can meet her. We have plans to spend the night having crazy sex and enjoying our potentially last night together. I know she's worried that I'll leave her for my mate and that still is a possibility, but I have to be honest with myself. I'm in love with this girl and I don't know if I can give her up.

I quickly make my way to the room we meet in and get ready for her. She thinks this is my room but it's only a random guest room. I'm not sure why but I just haven't been able to take her to my room. Henry my wolf said he not only won't allow it but that he will leave me completely if I name her as my true mate. He refuses to accept anyone other than our true mate. As much as he hates it I know he won't really leave me so I'm not worried. A knock at the door brings me back to reality and I go straight to the door knowing who it is.

"Hey, baby." Says the sweet angelic voice I've grown to love so much.
